01. To The Beginning
WELCOME!
(Note: The events of DR3 are not canon to the Monoworld universe.)
Ironically, the end of the Theme Park Killing Game coincided with the beginning of a new age. The survivors soon learned that they were few of many; all across the world, Killing Games had been occurring in unison. But in unison, many seemed to be ending. Whether by police intervention, or other...unfavorable means, it was over. The Future Foundation took an aggressive stance, abandoning anti-Despairification research in favor of mass-executions. Within five years, despair had largely been eradicated.
As for the survivors, fortune seemed to smile upon them. Ignia Brand and Iocus Hilares were merely arrested and thoroughly evaluated. Upon confirming their reverted state, they were sentenced to five years each in maximum security prison, and ten years of servitude under the Foundation. Willow Fey was offered his position back, but soon faded into obscurity. It seemed the world just wanted to forget, and rebuild.
After 5 years, that’s exactly what it begins to do. The Reconstruction Era began. 20 years after the end of the world...
The concept of “countries” and “cities” are abandoned in favor of one general country consisting of ten sectors. The world is smaller now, ravished and broken by nuclear war. The Future Foundation has contained these areas, preventing the spread of fallout, but repair is still merely a thought in those parts of the world. The largest safe area of land is a large portion of what was formerly Europe, and it is where the world population now resides. This new land is the “New World Order”, so get used to it!
The NWO is divided up into several sectors, all devoted to different industries. Together, they allow the entirety of the land to thrive. The concept of Ultimates has been elevated to a deity-like status; with so few surviving the carnage of the Tragedy, those that remain are in an elite class of their own.
As for the Future Foundation, they’re the new government. Branch heads come and go often, but the current leadership is always kept hidden. If they didn’t hide out of the public eye, assassination was almost a guarantee. Nonetheless, they did their best. Riots were dealt with not long after starting, and everyone in the NWO had the bare essentials, at least.
It’s a sunny Spring day when the presses go wild. The TV stations all try to stream the same speech, clamoring for the views. Newspapers spread across neighborhoods in minutes. The Future Foundation has sent a representative out to declare a new beginning for the era of hope; a beginning that has taken the shape of...a reality TV competition…? Yes, it’s true--So, You Call Yourself An Ultimate? has made application paperwork readily available for teenagers of all ages. If one films a video going through the various questions and prompts of the form and gives a compelling reason of why they should be an Ultimate, they have a chance to join the cast! The cast members of SYCYAU will join the life-changing...Neo Hope’s Peak Academy! Students of the 1st Class of NHPA will be guaranteed fame, fortune, and everlasting success as one of society’s elite. For the overwhelming majority of the citizens of the NWO, it is a chance to change everything they never thought was possible. But the stakes will be high. While 20 slots have been opened to the show...Neo’s Hope’s Peak Academy will only accepting ten students.
