A necessary part of functioning at maximum efficiency is having a steady supply of energy. This proves true for both machines and living things, and Irene was no exception. After significant amounts of exploration and investigation of the mansion she would be calling home for this competition, she found herself in need of some nourishment. While she would often forget to eat when working on an especially time-consuming project, there was no such project in progress at the moment, and no excuse for forgetting. She opened the refrigerator, and, after some browsing, began her work.
She took from the refrigerator two glass jars, and took bread from the drawer. Next, a plate and a knife were taken from the cabinet. Having the necessary tools, Irene reached into the pocket on her overalls and took out a pair of work gloves, slipping them on. She took the knife in her hand and carefully sliced off two slices from the loaf of bread, keeping the amount of crumbs minimal, and placing the two slices of bread onto the plate. Setting down the knife, she unscrewed the lids off each jar, setting them with the top facing up. Taking the knife back in hand, she extracted the jar's contents with it, and spread them evenly onto one slice of bread. She walked over to the sink, rinsing the knife of the residue. She put the knife in the other jar now, repeating the process and spreading the contents onto the other slice of bread.
She moved like a machine through this whole process, as if created for this purpose. She rinsed off the knife, placing it in the dishwasher, then returned to the counter. She placed the tops on both jars, screwing them both shut, and returned them to the refrigerator, then returned the bread to the drawer. She swept the excess crumbs into one gloved hand, dumping them in the trash. Finally, she took a slice of bread in each hand, and joined them together, placing it on the plate. It was an elegant creation, though not as elegant as her actual works. Elegant nonetheless, Irene had made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Taking a satisfied look at what she had made, she became aware of a presence. She looked up and saw that she had been joined by another competitor. Nox Tenebris, the Internet Personality, if she remembered correctly. The internet was a useful tool, despite not being one she used often. There were merits to be found in it, she was certain, but she lacked the time to investigate much herself. Perhaps she could gain an understanding of it. "Hello to you, Miss Tenebris. I was in the process of preparing a meal. How are you at this time?"

Nox Tenebris on stage, front and center. ♡ | [attr="class","technoscroll"]❝ Nox had a bunch of thoughts swarming her brain as she almost auto-piloted to where the kitchen was. The main one being that she was running low on energy. Not just physically, but emotionally. She sighed, combing a hand through her hair as she shook her head, swallowing thickly. 'Hold it together, you can't afford to mess up, hold it together,' was a common phrase that was constantly repeated in her mind, as she sluggishly made her way into it.
It didn't help that her thoughts seemed to only circle around one person, that one person someone she told herself she would erase from her life to meet her goals. But the pink of petals and brown were always warm in her eyes, and she couldn't help but smile innocently at those past memories. 'Distractions are weak, Nox.' She reminded herself, but she couldn't find it in herself to care, looking through her camera roll at previous pictures.
At first Nox ignored the girl who was making what seemed to be a sandwich, sitting on the counter of the kitchen to think. She just needed a few minutes away from running into anyone else, and the claustrophobic kitchen seemed like the best bet to her. She was too drained to force conversation. Once the girl addressed her presence, however, she turned, and her bright smile went back up, as well as her posture.
"Oh, hello! I'm doing amazingly~" She trailed off, intertwining her hands and placing them over her chest. She giggled. "Isn't is so great here? I mean, our dreams are one step closer from coming true! Oh- I haven't actually gotten your name, actually. Do you mind telling me? It would be awfully rude for me to start rambling without knowing your name!" |

Irene stared blankly at Nox from behind her goggles, silently lifting her sandwich up to her mouth and taking a bite, before placing it back down. Once she finished chewing, she spoke. "I am Irene Karlsen, Ultimate Toymaker. It is nice meeting you, Ms. Tenebris. I have introduced myself three times prior to now, but it is of no issue. I am certain in your trade you must spend a significant amount of time introducing yourself to others. While I am not previously acquainted with your work, I believe you introduced yourself upon our entering."
Another pause for another mechanical bite of her sandwich. "You appear troubled. Do you wish to converse to focus your attentions elsewhere?" She set down the sandwich. "May you tell me about this internet? I have heard there is a wealth of knowledge contained within it. It is not something I have utilized regularly. If you would be kind as to provide me some education on it, I would be thankful." She gave a small nod.

Nox Tenebris on stage, front and center. ♡ | [attr="class","technoscroll"]❝ She blinked, before sliding off the counter, facing Irene. She sheepishly smiled, bowing lightly. "Sorry Irene! I walked around a lot, I must've missed your introduction! My bad!" She chuckled, shuffling her feet silently. She put her hands behind her back intertwined, her fingers twiddling out of sight.
She found herself thinking back to why she was here to begin with, and it made her puff out and pat her cheeks in instinct, seeming to be giving herself a pep talk inside her mind. Though anyone watching would probably think she was... crazy. Or acting. Either one. When Irene asked her a simple question of 'what's wrong,' she paused, visibly confused and startled by the question. She immediately covered it up, smiling lightly.
"Oh, it's... nothing, I promise! Don't worry about little ol' me. I'll... I'll be fine. I have to be." She said, almost more of a fact than being genuine about herself and how she felt. As she watched Irene eat, she realized how robotic the girl acted, but it didn't bother her in the slightest.
When she was asked about the internet, a glint showed in her eyes, and she whipped out her phone, showing Irene as she talked extremely quickly in excitement. "The internet is super cool! You can keep in touch with people, have fun, or as you said, find information. You have these things called browsers in which you use to connect to the internet and search for things. There are .edu sites, which are made by educational facilities, so the website is more credible. Then there are .org websites, which are hosted by organizations of different things, like charities or something. .com is the most common ending, which is just generally used for most companies or other groups of people that doesn't fit the other ones. You can also share pictures and other things." She explained, seeming to beam at the oppourtunity to discuss the internet. "Just remember, there's also people who can record, or stream experiences, or blog and vlog about their life. It's... a tool anyone can use for almost anything!" |
