01. 3000 BPM THE UNIVERSAL SONG OF LIFE! It started off as a dark room, devoid of all presence. Then...a tap. Another. And another. Could you hear it? The sound...of a drum. Drums, plural. As the lights slowly illuminated the area, you could see rows of hundreds of heart-shaped drums, being tapped in unison by Monokumas. It was a chilling, reverberating echo.
The area was...well, covered in a fine red mist. Who could really say what the mist was? Through it came two armored bears...followed by two more...row by row, more and more...until finally, a pair appeared in the line carrying a flag high and proud. The insignia of Little Berlin blazed upon it proudly; literally, the flag was aflame. And tied to the pole suspending the flag was the struggling body of Ren Umeki. As much as he fought, as much as he pushed and pulled at the ropes holding him tightly...he couldn't escape. The drums grew louder. A cacaphonous cackle sounded from each Monokuma unit...and within seconds, the earth began to tremble. Behind Ren, in the distance, scissors and scalpels the size of skyscrapers began to erect from the ground itself, sending rubble flying. It seemed that this was an all out war. But who was on the other side?
Was it the contestants?
An anatomical heart descended from the sky...and was torn to pieces as the giant scissors began to shred.
Suddenly, the ominous harmony broke. Bears began to attack bears...the weapons in the background began to collide with one another, seemingly cutting even the mist into fine scarlet ribbons. And still, Ren was held up, watching as the world around him grew and fell apart. His eyes grew wider with every second; his breathing quickened. He was remembering another day, another year, another lifetime.
In the corner of the screen, a small heartbeat monitor appeared. Growing larger and larger...it seemed to be in tune with the drums. With every rhythmic tap, the beat flew across the screen.
It picked up once more; faster, louder, stronger. The monitor grew wild, turning from forest green to sickly red. Beep...beep...beep. Beep. Beep. Beepbeepbeepbeep--
The entire scene began to shake faster and faster, everything becoming a blur. The bears fought harder; the drums couldn't quite drown out their screams, nor the sounds of scraping metal as tools destroyed themselves. All the while, the burning flag began to grow wilder and wilder...
Until, in a flash, the fire consumed the pole, and Ren. The screen shook wildly for another few seconds...
...and then stood still.
Ren had stopped moving.
The heartbeat monitor began to grow, but the result was clear. The drums were torn to pieces, leaving heart-shaped ruin. The Monokumas were in pieces, their flag of Little Berlin burned to ash. The doctor had been freed from his ropes, but he laid in a heap of oddly-angled limbs and soot-stained clothing. He did not move. He did not speak.
After a few moments, the monitor took over the entire screen, its incessant shrill beep growing louder. Time of death: who really cared, in the end?
Ren Umeki, the Aspiring Ultimate Doctor, was dead.

"..." Dorothy was speechless. She knew from the history books that the executions were gruesome, but what happened to Ren was on a wholly different level.
Suffering through drumbeats while being burned alive wasn't any way a person should die.
She knew that she prematurely called for the vote, but there was no way she could have known that this would happen, and for that, she felt bad.
Standing there motionlessly and wordlessly, she quietly hoped that everyone else would get saved.
The Polyglot couldn't even begin to fathom how Koneko felt during the entire trial. And now there was a different AI to deal with...
Dorothy felt the need to persevere for everyone, not just her family anymore.

This was nothing like the usual way Nox acted. Not proud of hopeful, smiling or energetic. She was a girl who was terrified beyond belief. Someone just died in front of her. Someone just... they died. Gone. Dead. After a few tentative minutes, she stood up straight and rubbed her eyes.
'Get it together Nox, you have to win. Your life is on the line, now. But it always has been. This is a reality check. You have to be the best. You have to show you're strong enough. Get it together.' She chanted in her head. She rubbed her eyes strongly to the point it got even redder and raw as she sniffled, pulling herself together bit by bit. Her eyes nervously flickered around everyone as she continued to think to herself. One thought flickered in her head, however.
'...What's the point in pretending it doesn't hurt anymore?' |

Orica watched the sight unfold before her. She didn't flinch. She didn't look away. Was it really not effecting her? Was Eisenhart's Iron Heart really so strong as to not even budge at the scene of a man dying in front of her, one who she herself voted to have die? Yes.
Because she knew if she was in that position then she would accept the same. Weakness leads to Death. The one that tried to pull her into some inane group to game the system ended up caving into his murderous cravings, and as a result he was now dead before them. That is how that bear's game worked, how he danced his dance of despair to counter the Hope of the students before him, but Orica stood Strong.
Turning to face everyone once the mess had ended, she said, ”Don't look away. Don't avert your eyes to the world in front of you. To try to comfort yourself by avoiding the cold, hard truth of reality will only breed Weakness that bear will exploit again and again. That is how Despair works. It's not defeated by Hope, it FEEDS on it. Only by being Strong can you weather the storm and survive to see the freedom you all seek. If you don't, then Despair will simply pull you back down into the darkness.”
With that, she moved to leave the area. If they hated her for her harsh words, then no matter. One does not get strong by being coddled.

"...Who really cared...? Is that a joke...?" Koneko's voice seemed empty. No fear, no sorrow, no pain. Nothing. "I did. I'm... The one who cared."Oddly enough, Koneko began to laugh. The sound was hollow, like an old, rusted church bell. "So this is what it means to be human...? To hurt? To lose and feel nothing but raw pain? This is what I've been trying to achieve ever since I was made...?"Her laughter grew louder, and louder, more haunting and empty than it ever has been before. "Wh-What a joke! What a terrible, terrible joke! I-It's not funny, y-you know..." She remained silent for a moment, but... Ren didn't come back. He never moved again. There was no other way to slice it--Ren was dead. The person who decided not only could he even associate with a machine, he... he had it in him to love one, too. This was Jun all over again. Someone sick, something broken in their heads, casting themselves down to death. Before her eyes she could see it all over again; an empty apartment, reeking of alcohol, blood, and a day-old corpse. His body--the one person she wanted so desperately to save, her best friend--hanging limp from the ceiling, a chair kicked over next to his feet. "I-I think I understand now. There is no such thing as hope or justice in the world. Only loss. Humans only exist... to hurt." A twisted, null smile formed on her face as her hand went up to one of the devices on her ears. "I can't save them. I can't help them. I can't do anything. All I do... is get left behind when they're gone. What... What a joke."With that, she twisted the device, and it made a harsh, metallic crack, and... Everything changed. Koneko had always carried a warm aura with her. Down to her core, she wanted to help people, and it showed. But now... It seemed the temperature around her dropped by several degrees. Her eyes, once a light blue, faded, until the iris and pupil showed nothing but chaotic static. She stood back up, her legs moving in very precise movements, not shaking like one would expect after such an experience. "I understand now," her voice was flat, and almost completely emotionless, "I was given the ability to feel so that I may relate to patients... But unfortunately, that will never happen again. I was never fit to save people, or to help them."She turned back towards the group, addressing them all as if they met for the first time all over again. "I'm... Relinquishing my title. I'm not fit to be the Ultimate Counsellor. Now... I'm just the Ultimate Robot." tag(s): @someone ━ words: 000 ━ no time for regrets.

as long as you remember me, i don't care if everyone else forgets. [attr="class","quicklinks"]♡STAYPOSITIVE♡ [attr="class","quicklinks"]319 words ♡ Lights, Camera, Action! Nox Tenebris on stage, front and center. ♡ | [attr="class","technoscroll"]❝ After Nox finally composed herself, she smiled shakily and nodded at Koneko in understanding. She continued to smile encouraging at everyone, her hands limp next to her and her shoulders slightly bent. She blinked sluggishly at them, before sighing.
"The Future Foundation will find us! I... I know it." She shouted, trying to bring in hope that she was afraid everyone lost. That she herself felt was half missing. She bit her lip, fiddling with her bracelet lightly, but otherwise she didn't move.
This... this was real. She had seen an actual death. Something in her chest shifted. Whether it numbed or simply disappeared, she wasn't sure, but she was positive something broke inside of her. She found smiling easier and easier, but though interally it was easy for her, it looked like she was struggling to keep her quivering smile on her face. It was as if... her body wasn't obeying her.
She screamed at herself. Yelled and begged and pleaded for it to listen to her, to numb in a way that let her finally be useful. But the small shift in her heart slowly warped into a gaping hole of emptiness inside, and she found herself laughing bitterly, holding her stomach.
She wished she died in that cold cabin that day. That Tyler never saved her, and that she bled out. She wished he just did what he wanted and left her to die alone. Because dying alone was better than what she just witnessed. She never realized how much was actually going to happen. Or did she? Maybe she was in denial, but she wasn't sure...
She bit her lip as she continued to force a smile, but something was clearly off. With how forced it was, it was clear the left side of her lip wasn't raising like the other was, in fact it didn't even twitch at the effort of trying to smile. |

This isn't what was supposed to have happened. This isn't what they had all signed up for. Ren was dead. Like all the way dead. Because he had murdered a girl who had been rejected from the show in the first place and yet somehow teleported in. There was a cat now and ugh, things were just happening so fast.
Absent mindedly Nana took her violin out of the case and hugged it to her body. Everything was gonna be fine. Someone was dead. Two someones were dead, and a third barely alive by the skin of his teeth. They'd never be back. Technically one of them was never supposed to be here in the first place But she was alive, and she would continue to be alive.
Behind her people were speaking. Reacting to the body in their own way, but Nana was simply running a finger over her strings, every so often plucking one with a twang.
Things were gonna be fine.

"Don't be stupid," Koneko snapped back at Nox, a venom in her voice unlike anything you'd ever heard from her before. "The future foundation isn't coming. The future foundation doesn't care. Don't you get it? Ren was brainwashed to kill on command... By the foundation themselves. Nobody is coming to save us. The only way out... Is to kill, just as the rules say. Anything else is just damned naive." you cant wake up - this is not a dream

► Yuichiro Yuuki N/a
320 | Hatred. It was an emotion that he'd struggled with before. He'd never thought it would be so fierce again, but there he was. Standing there, watching the death of Ren Umeki. It was abhorrent. The most disgusting, hideous display he'd ever seen in his life. Even the underground filth that he once knew could not compare. Never to this. This was endless, black cruelty without a semblance of remorse.
He didn't know Ren well, but even a killer didn't deserve this, and the doctor was much, much more than a mere murderer.
"This... Is all their fault." The mastermind behind this game was a sick person. No, a killer didn't deserve this treatment, but the person behind Monokuma was much less than a killer. They were inhuman. "You... Deserve to burn. Nothing is too terrible for the likes of you." It was lucky Monokuma wasn't within arms reach, otherwise Yuichiro may have broken a rule on pure impulse. On rage unsati--
CRACK.
Yuichiro had tuned out any talking the others were doing, but such an unnatural sound caught his attention. The boy abruptly raised his head and turned towards the sound. He saw Koneko, her eyes turned from human to something cold. Something mechanical. Her voice was void of emotion as she reintroduced herself. He pieced together what just happened. "You... Let it..." When he voted for Ren, he prayed this wouldn't destroy that girl. In the end, those prayers were unanswered. "I'm.. So sorry, Koneko." He felt his sympathy was null. After what just happened, it became meaningless.
Rubbing his eyes, he felt them begin to sting. When Excrest died, he felt silently relieved. All they would have to do is track down a killer. His parents, long time friends, and even Valentina and Nero who he had just met would be saved. But now, he wondered if that cost was really worth paying. None of them deserved this. | |

Good Meals, Good Friends, Good Laughs, Good Murders, What more could anyone want? "No..." said Nero as he looked at the carnage. He had returned to that horrid sight, that sight that he had abandoned all those years ago. Despair. He fell onto his knees as he watched Ren die. It was so different from Excrest. He hadn't known Excrest, he never talked to her either... And with that mask, he let himself ignore that feeling. That feeling of death. But now, one of his fellow students, one of his fellow friends died... And it wasn't even his fault.
"...Not again... I can't afford to let this... shut me down.." After a few minutes of mourning, he got up. It was so hard but he couldn't let himself fall into despair over this. He needed to help his friends and family... while he still had them. And so he slowly and unsteadily stood up...

"No! I- I swore to protect everyone! Look at me! I'm a f-failure! No matter what I do! Someone! Always! Ends! Up! Dying! This wasn't supposed to happen again!"
Look at you, you pitiful moron. Can't even keep yourself composed in the face of danger. It's no wonder people keep dying when you're around. You couldn't stop Nero and Valentina from getting collared, I couldn't stop Excrest from getting killed, I couldn't stop Kris from being attacked, I couldn't stop Ren from committing a murder, and I couldn't save him! Why do I let this keep happening? No, I have to keep calm for everybody else.
No, we have to stay strong, it's what Ren would want. He would want us to get out of here before anyone ends up dead. He believed the Future Foundation would come and save us, so they have to be on their way, right?
I don't believe those words. How do we not just give up? Ren is actually dead. He's gone. However much he wanted us to leave doesn't matter anymore. What are we going to do with Koneko? She was heartbroken once we found out, and now she barely sounds human. But I guess that's my fault, huh? I wonder if I had found Ren or Excrest before they found each other, Ren would still be here?
Do you think he forgives me? Do you think he can forgive me for failing to protect 5 of the people here? I doubt it.
I'm just gonna go back to my room.

[attr="class","box2"] Funny things about death – sometimes, there’s this strange demand for it. No, not in the sense of vigilante justice, or even animalistic acts of lynching, but rather… a more perverted approach to it. After all, executions used to be public displays, familial pastimes filled with doe-eyed children on their parents’ backs who soaked in sights of broken necks and dangling feet.
They say history had a way of repeating itself, almost as if it were some otherworldly, uncanny, unstoppable force. Maybe this was true. After all, just look at the demand for that baseball-kid’s execution. The prices that people were willing to pay just for the opportunity of somehow, somewhere, getting a hand on a recording… it was, simply put, crazy. People didn’t even know if a recording existed at all, but the people want what they may.
With the amount of games that had happened though, there were enough recordings to satisfy such urges. It helped that apparently, one green-haired mastermind organized a game entirely with such recordings in mind. A documentary, was it? Well regardless, you know what the best part was?
All of these other ones, they were cheaper! Much, much cheaper. But who could blame those rich bastards for offering such a price, hm? After all, baseball-kid’s execution was the first of that game’s, and who wouldn’t want to witness such a great part of history?
The market exists, and no doubt, news of their current predicament had already spread out. And while God only knows how the outside world was reacting, Caelie decided to… make a bet, so to speak. Quite a harmless one really.
Throughout the Doc’s execution, a single phone had its recording feature turned on. “In memory of him,” said Caelie, a sentence delivered in a blunt, simple, matter-of-fact tone. “Evidence of what’s going on inside this game, so that justice may be served.”

Sanura was silent throughout the whole execution. No words, no nothing came from her. She just stood there, watching the bizarre execution going on in front of her. Obviously Sanura had heard of the Tragedies that had transpired in history, hell, she was bombarded with stories of them. But in no way would that have prepared her for what she had just witnessed. She had never seen someone get executed, nor even seen someone die up until this crazy Manor turned into a Killing Game.
She was shaking, trembling as she wouldn't want to see something like this ever again.
"H-how... why must these things happen...? This is just...unfair..."
That was probably the most she would be able to say. Still shocked at the sight of the dead body, she turned around and cried. A lot.
