I AM NOT A BAD BEAR
even though i do bad things
VERY BAD THINGS
such horrible things
When the elevator made contact with the ground, it hit with more of a shaking, crashing screech than usual, sending every contestant tumbling to the ground. The lights of the elevator blinked out silently. You were in the dark; and you were not alone.
"Puuuhuhu...let's cut to the chase, shall we?" Monokuma's voice was low and menacing. "Every teenager's invincible in their own minds, but they all fear one thing: the unknown. The future is scaaaary, isn't it? You spent your very first days here thinking of how everything could go wrong! But, well...it did, didn't it?" And the elevator doors opened; you could barely tell in the dim red glow of wherever you were now. "And it continues to. Listen to my voice as I explain this very carefully. The audience may find this whole kill-solve-kill thing a little predictable by now, y'know? And as such...I'm about to flip the script. We've jumped the shark, folks! And like any perfectly drawn-out show, it's time for some Flanderization. You're all such complex people! But will you continue to be as your emotions intensify? Wouldn't it be strange if you just started to inexplicably become the epitome of your dominant trait? For Ms. Simons, that might a weepy little pessimist, or for Ms. Eisenhart, an unfeeling mercenary...oh wait. They already are those things! But imagine those at a hundred times more powerful; no, a thousand! A million! Imagine if I pumped a gas through the set that made you all those things--oops! I've...said too much. Well; there you have it." The air was...silent. Confused. Monokuma had never spoken so fast, or with such forthcoming. As if reading the silence, he simplified what he said in no uncertain terms.
"Until a murder occurs, your emotions are going to get denser and harder to manage. You're going to become shadows of who you are--who you were, pretty soon! Puhuhuhuhu! Buuuut..." And there was always a but. "If you win this challenge, you'll be spared the motive entirely. And thus, to throw you in blind--literally--the challenge is simple! This is the Summoning Room, and the only object in here is an unlit cylinder. If you can find the match I've thrown somewhere on the floor, and light it...victory is yours! As always, of course, two of you will be receiving the collars as well. Begin!"
Within seconds everyone was scrambling, searching; the panic was palpable, and unending, and suddenly, all too soon, in a flash--
"Too easy." The voice was unmistakable as it glitched ever so faintly. Koneko Kikaimoto had the match. And in several audible strides, she stepped over the bodies of her peers to light the cylinder. She repeated herself. "Too easy. You never designed this with a robot in mind, did you?" With that, a spark lit the match...and then the...TNT. "Wait--"
The explosion shook the room almost immediately. It was still dark, it was still tense and fearful as a series of striking sounds echoed through the room. Once again, it could be nothing else but the hollow limbs of the robotic Counselor. She did not move again. Her eyes had been a source of light, but with every passing second, they were dimming.
Koneko Kikaimoto, the Ultimate Counselor...was dead? Yes, it was unmistakable. The hidden room behind the dynamite stick now cast a shaky light upon the room. She was in one piece, but the quiet whirring that accompanied her existence had ceased.
The shaky light moved off her form, scanning the faces of the other contestants. Then, it moved to reveal its own face. An unfamiliar face. A scared face. This face was attached to a body which was now climbing off a stone slab placed in the hidden room, trying to keep hold of the flashlight in his hand.
"H-Hello? I--I'm...Kaizo. Kaizo Hanika, the...the...well...I was told I could be...the...the Aspiring Ultimate Bodyguard. I don't...I..."
He seemed to fumble, lost and unable to find the words. In your ears, Cheshire's voice echoed.
"Add another...add another...the cast is growing stale..."
Oh no. Oh no.
...Goodbye, Koneko Kikaimoto. You will never be forgotten.
