Name: Alexander Root
Age: 18
Appearance: Okabe Rintarou – Steins;Gate
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 120 lbs
Talent: SHSL Scientist
Grade/Year: Year 4
Personality:
Alexander, or as everyone calls him, Root, is a very quick, intelligent sort of person. He learns things at an incredible rate, he is able to compute values in his head in a split second, even the more complicated ones taking a short time. However, he usually has to write it down so that he does not forget it, as with so many thoughts going through his head, it would be hard to remember everything completely. If Root’s mind were a computer, which some have compared him to in the past, he would have more RAM than memory. He does have bad memory and needs the help of written work. And thus, he always has a notebook on hand, and tends to have many, many notebooks, all filled with notes. Sometimes he ends up with walls and walls of notes and calculations.
However, Root tends to lack empathy. While he has learned to recognize what would upset someone, he doesn’t tend to care if he hurts people’s feelings, sometimes even saying something to upset another if they are annoying him. He believes that everyone else is beneath him, that anything that doesn’t have to do with the sciences is useless. Because of this huge ego, Root tends to work alone, and views others as hindrances to his progress. Sometimes he ignores those around him, but he has a hard time ignoring people for long, their mere presence taking up room that could be used to be solving whatever problem he currently is working on.
He can be incredibly sarcastic if he is interacting with another, though, there are those special people who he tends to like: the curious, the innocent, and the smart. It can be a combination of any of these three qualities and usually based on how they treat him. He likes those who stand up to him, but don’t push it too far. He likes those who trust him when he tells them something he knows for a fact is true. While there are times when he might be manipulating what he tells people so he can continue to study something. Everything he does is for a reason, and rarely does he just screw with someone.
Root tends to become incredibly obsessive when he begins work on a problem. He has a hard time giving up on something he has already started to think about. He will stay up for days, go a long time without eating or drinking (though usually he will have a few cups of coffee if anything), until he nearly collapses or is forced to rest. During these sleep deprived times, he tends to get crazier, and more unstable, and might end up yelling, or freaking out over the littlest things.
History:
From a young age, Root was always different, especially from his family, filled with the creative minds of painters, authors and others in the humanities, and no one in the sciences. He always felt left out, seeing as he never could seem to draw or write like his family could, but always had found the sciences to be interesting in school. He failed his music classes but excelled in math and science. Root spent a lot of his time coming up with theories without any proper professional training, but ending up being correct, sometimes more accurate, and simpler in the math. When he was around ten years old, Root was discovered by his teacher, a retired well-known scientist herself, who had connections to other scientists around the world. She showed Root’s work to the others, and soon Root was offered a position and a full-ride through college. Root refused. He hated school because the other students were mean to him and he never fit in, but he also did not want to be locked down with a specific company. He wanted freedom to do whatever he wanted, and he cared not for the college, nor the money. All he cared about was the science, all the areas of science, from physics to biology.
Then, shortly before being accepted to Hope’s Peak, Root won a Nobel Prize in Physics for coming up with a unified theory for physics that was not String Theory, as physics is one of the areas he works in. Not only did he come up with the theory, but he also began to prove it, which he made significant progress on. When Hope’s Peak offered a position at the school, at first Root denied it, but when he found that he was running low on the ability to prove his theories, and that Hope’s Peak would fund his research, as well as allow him to work alone, he finally agreed and started at Hope’s Peak Academy as the SHSL Scientist.
