The general overview of the rooms given to Taro and Iocus led them to believe that not only was something of importance was located in Root's Room, but Root has a missing pen, a notebook and pencils, which can lead to the possibly correct conclusion that Alexander Root might be important to the case in some way shape or form. Whether it's just Root legitimately helping out Mariko through all this or just using her to buy himself a great partner to ditch some evidence, Taro has no idea which.
