nobody ever made you dig deeper Root was pacing around his lab, thinking over what was going to happen soon. Time travel was in his grasp. And if this were successful, then he would get funding for what he wanted with no strings attached. That was the best part of Hope’s Peak, that he was able to get this far. He could time travel already, even if it weren’t tested on anything living yet. And now that he had finished this, he could simply go back in time to discover the origins of the universe, as part of his current problem was he was too far into the life of the universe to really understand the combination of gravity with the three other fundamental forces of the universe. With a time machine… he could go to the one moment he really wanted to go to and change the future. The other parts of a time machine… well, he didn’t care about those right now. He didn’t care about going and killing Hitler. All he cared about was that one moment and uncovering the secret to the universe itself.
Today was the day of his presentation. He was going to show the students and teachers of Hope’s Peak Academy how he truly was the Ultimate Scientist. It was advertised on the walls everywhere: “Root’s Time Machine; See history right before your eyes, time travel is discovered.” Of course, it was designed by one of the creative folk in the school, and well, Root liked it. Instead of his face, there was a tree to symbolize him and the words were in big bold letters. It was an after school presentation, of course, but it wasn’t long after school was let out, so hopefully the turn-out of intellectual minds would be good. Maybe even some stupid ‘official’ and ‘college-trained’ scientists would turn out to see the greatest invention of all time.
“Mr. Root, are you ready?”
That meant it was time. Root slowly stopped pacing and stopped in front of his machine. “Send them in.” His face was serious and his hands were in his pockets. The viewers would step in and it would be time to present his time machine for the first time. Oh, this was so exciting.

A few days ago, Taro was minding his own business when he accidentally bumped into Root. By "bumped into", Root was to busy with his head into his notebooks to realize Taro grabbing some water at the water fountain. He was used to Root's behavior by now. He wasn't surprised when he ordered Taro to help him out saying something along the lines of "It's more important than your entire existence." Having nothing better to do than study for the math test again, Taro decided it be a great time killer to allow Root to boss him around like Taro was one of the servants.
He brought Taro to his room where he demanded that Taro move some equipment. Though he never specified what said machine was, it didn't take a genius to figure it out. It was literally plastered all over the walls of this school. It was a time machine. Taro Yamada would be the first person to carry a time machine into an amphitheatre. That automatically tops his talent of just managing not to die in explosions. Root probably has all the kinks worked out of it, so if it doesn't work, Root would be livid with Taro. Not that Root was Mr. Happy all the time out of Mariko's presence. If, by stroke of shit luck, something were to happen, Mariko would probably allow him to spend the nights over at her place while she tried to convince Root not to murder him. Root is many things, but a guy who would allow Mariko to see her carpet soaked with blood is not amongst them.
He pushcartted the machine over to the presentation. Some Ultimates, namely the Security Guard, Bodyguard, Ninja and Armor Truck Driver, protected Taro from any unwanted participants that might try to steal the machine or destroy it. Taro is pretty sure that an Ultimate Televangelist would be very uncomfortable with a machine that defys his "lord". So he and his cult could easily stage an attack. Thankfully, Taro delivered the machine rather peacefully.
For some reason, Root dragged him on stage with him with nothing but a smirk on his face when looking at him. Taro could already feel that something was not gonna go as planned.

nobody ever made you dig deeper Okay, maybe he had announced he had time travel before he actually discovered the solution, but he had it now, and the only way it was going to work was to choose someone to demonstrate who wouldn’t have any idea what was going on, and might have the chance to survive. Who else but the Ultimate Survivor? Sure, if it didn’t work, it would be an unfortunate accident, but no one could blame him, as how was he supposed to know that the survivor couldn’t survive something as simple as time travel. It should be safe, the calculations showed it was safe, but there was always the probability of something going wrong, and things didn’t seem to go wrong enough to kill Taro, no matter how much he said he wanted that (it wasn’t completely true that he wanted Taro dead, he just said that he did).
It wasn’t as large of a group as Root would have preferred to come see his experiment, but these people would do. He was ready to start. He just had to start speaking…. His breathing slowly picked up pace as he looked at the crowd. Blood was rushing through his body as his heart beat against his chest so loudly he was sure everyone could hear, even if he knew that wasn’t really possible. His mouth was dry, and he couldn’t make his mouth open to speak. That is, until he saw a familiar face in the crowd. A girl smiling at him from the back of the group who had come to see his experiment. She gave him a thumbs up and Root smiled widely. Of course she’d come to see this, she never missed anything of his, and just seeing her smiling in the back made Root grin and take a deep breath.
“Welcome to the presentation of the invention that defeats all others. H-Have you ever screwed up so badly you would like to go back in time to fix it, whether that be the test you failed last week, or something you said three years ago? I’ve made it possible.” Root indicated the machine behind him. “I am the master of time. By creating a small black hole, and studying it up close through a very long and complicated process I’m sure few of you would understand, I was able to unlock the secret to time travel. Don’t worry about the black hole, it’s the first of its kind too, a naked black hole, meaning it won’t destroy the world and it can be destroyed at any point.” Root took another deep breath as his eyes wandered to the black haired girl in the back once more gaining his confidence from her look, even if she wasn’t even trying to do so, as she was his strength, his confidence. “Let’s start this with a demonstration. I’ll set the time to three minutes in the future. Then, the subject will appear on this spot,” Root pointed to a spot on the floor. “Then I’ll set the time machine to three minutes in the past, and the subject will appear behind those doors, wait three minutes before coming in.” Root grinned even wider if that were possible, almost with a sinister look, a look as if he were mad, his voice dropped pitch and his eyes darkened. “Then the real fun will begin.” Root let out a laugh as he pushed Taro into the machine, locking the door shut, and began to press a couple of buttons on the large machine.
There was a slow rattle as the machine powered on as Root typed in the time that Taro would appear, three minutes in the future, and the location, using GPS satellites to pinpoint the location (okay, Taro might appear a little bit to the left or the right, give or take five feet, and hopefully not appear partially or fully inside one of the walls. That’d be bad… well, not that bad, considering it was Taro.
BOOM! The machine began to rattle. Something in the back had exploded, before quickly sucking all of the ejected parts back into it, going silent as if nothing had happened. “Shit.” Root whispered to himself. He turned back towards the crowd away from the machine. “Don’t worry, that’s supposed to happen, hah hah hah.” Wow. That was terribly convincing, Root, he told himself. He had to focus. Fix the problem. Find out what was the issue, what had happened. There was a rapid beeping from the machine and his eyes widened. Shit. Hopefully Taro somehow survived this. “There are some t-technical difficulty. Uh, please exit as quickly as –” The beeping became more rapid. “Get out!” Root quickly tried to make it not to the door, but to the girl from earlier who gave him his confidence, before BOOM!
Root was sent flying, but just in time to hold onto the dark haired young girl, as he was thrown to the ground a few feet away, the wall splitting into pieces and moving with them. In a split second, Root tried to turn himself over so he landed on the ground, but was unable to do so, the girl hitting the ground first, and Root landing on top. He fell to the side, trying to move his body, to try to check on the girl’s status, and help her if she needed it still. “Wendy…” Root breathed, his eyes falling closed. Though he was still conscious, his body refused to move at all.

[/font] Stifling a yawn from the long trip back from her latest shooting location, the green haired girl lazily slung a bag holding her favorite handheld camcorder over her shoulder as she approached the school's gates, readying herself once again for the humdrum activities that filled high school life. Even for the Ultimates who were handpicked to attend the Academy there really was no escaping that they were all, with a few exclusions still teenagers. Teenagers that were stated to be the bright shining stars of tomorrow in a variety of fields, but still teenagers at the end of the day. As much as Mariko loved what she did, how she loved the pleasant glow she got in the pit of her stomach from being called the best up and coming director of her time and the benefits that all came with, she'd be lying if she said there weren't times she missed days where all she had to worry about if there was going to be a surprise algebra test tomorrow. Rubbing sleep out of green eyes as she walked along, seeing but not really understanding the meaning of the pictures of trees that littered the walls, advertising a tree's time machine (she was very tired if you couldn't tell.) the green haired girl is forced to stop as seemingly without warning what seemed to be a confined explosion echoed through the now mostly empty halls. Shocked into standing completely still, Mariko stares wide eyed in the direction the loud noise seemed to come from, seconds ticking away as she stood there, not sure what she was even supposed to do here before deciding that “I'm out of here.”and with that Mariko spun on her heels and quickly made for the exit from which she had entered. She didn't know what was happening, but she drew the line at explosions [/ul]

Taro helped Root set up the time machine to his exact dimensions. He triple-checked it and triple-checked that he triple-checked the work. He was asked, er, demanded to appear on stage with him. He looked over at the large crowd gathered upon Root. As Root was explaining the difficulties, Taro slowly wondered why he would be needed to go up there in the first place. It's not like Root to help him operate the machine. In fact, it's not like Root to be said test subject for said machine. Then who.....
"Well...." Taro said under his breathe, "Fuck me straight to hell."
As expected, Root shoved him inside of the machine. Of course, if something went wrong, he would like somebody who was so-called expert at surviving said accident. But before he would think of that reason, Root would think that it's not that big of a deal if Taro was blown to smithereens.
*******************************************************************************************************************************
"Gah...Gah! GGGGGRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMPPPPPPPPHHHHHH!!!!!!!"
Taro screamed in agony. Various machine parts were lodged in him. He most likely broke 5 ribs and fractured all but one of the rest of them. And once again, like some sick joke, he got a concussion. He could feel it in his head as he tried to work out what happened. Once he realized he couldn't be pushed into the machine, then been ordered by Root to move said machine into the auditorium, he realized this concussion fucked with the orders of events. Just imagine, a couple of months ago, three days from now in Taro's battered mind, he was involved in a nuclear explosion and he managed to top that by simply being in a time mach.......
"You've got to be kidding me...." Taro realized something. He realized something very very annoying. Taro realized he was blown into the ceiling and been pretty much hanging from a thread. Gravity, unfortunately, still does exist and exists predictably. Taro fell without making any noises, as he was to busy bracing himself for the inevitable pain.
*Snap* That was his leg. *Snap* Now his elbow bent completely backwards. It was at this point that adrenaline kicked in and he was no longer in pain, but, perhaps worse, in shock. All he could clearly see was that he was not burnt whatsoever. His clothes protected him from the blast and said blast propelled him upwards, then sparked fire. His shoes were now unwearable and burnt with the legs of the pants clearly seeing better days, but his legs, all though cut and bruised, were okay.
Still in shock, Taro's hand became tightened around someone's ankle or wrist, though the thought that his hand could still function with his elbow backwards was amazing in of itself.
It always was miraculous. It always was...
