He was denying it? What purpose did that serve?
"You defended Daisuke. You were accusing Saoirse until the very last moments of the trial. If you thought Daisuke did it, then why keep accusing others?" Willow said, carefully scrutinizing the survivor. Taro had proven himself to be suspicious. Question is; was he a convenient idiot, or a Mastermind or traitor? Regardless Taro was dangerous to others.

"I knew it was Daisuke during Monokuma's explanation at the beginning of the trial. I decided to use this to my advantage to make the others think I'm incompetent, thus extending my lifespan during this game. In short, blame someone else and others will believe that you could be useful in the trial to make me look like an asset they can use during the trials."
Unlike Root, Taro could give Willow a simple answer. Root wants to understand how people work. Willow wants the answer. After his explanation he turned around and started looking through the medicine cabinet for any caffeine pills that might help the others stay awake for longer.

He knew all along huh? That was his story? It was either a complete joke or entirely suspicious. Either way it was a strange, yet revealing move to tell him this. Taro was either a bold strategist, or loved to talk too much for his own good.
"Ah? How exactly did you know it was him? What gave him away to you? And why would you tell me this?" Willow asked

"When the trial starts, everyone was looking at everyone else trying to figure out who the killer was. Daisuke, on the other hand, was looking straight forward. Why? Because he already knew who the killer is. As for telling you this, it's because I know I can trust you."

When someone says they know they can trust you in a situation like this, it's probably because they are trying to earn your trust. Still Willow couldn't entirely rule out the possibility Taro was telling the truth. He couldn't get a firm grasp on the survivor's psychology. That's what worried him.
"Interesting. I will have to keep a close eye on you during the trials. I am glad that you apparently find me trustworthy, however I am a bit confused as to why. My talent is Ultimate Trickster. I very well could be lying to you and could be the mastermind or one of these traitors. Or I could be planning your murder. For my part I don't entirely trust you. Though the possibility of you being a trustworthy person has slightly increased during the course of this conversation. "

Taro glanced at Willow for a brief second, before turning back around.
"Trust is vital in a situation like this, and I need someone to discuss any theories I have about the game with without any prying eyes. You are the best candidate in terms of people I can trust and people I can discuss this information with. Let's face it, I'm not going to get anything out of Root during our time here unless I die my hair green and throw on a purple hoodie."
Suddenly, Taro sat down across from Willow very out of character of his normal speed.
"What does it mean? What is a traitor? A traitor to Monokuma that we can trust? A traitor amongst the group that works for Monokuma? Both? If we can trust the traitor, then why hasn't Monokuma simple killed them yet? I feel like that traitor should have been made an example, yet why tell us the number of traitors then? I feel like the best case scenario is having the traitors supply the motivations in secret with said mastermind, so why oust them? And, more importantly, if we find the traitor first, do you think they even know who the mastermind is?"
Taro sudden ramblings and overall paranoia and curiosity about the trial is completely different from his methodical thinking he was known for up to this point. It's almost like this huge wave of thought just poured out of him at once.

Reasoning like that huh? What's up with this guy?
"Fair enough. You aren't making the wrong choice." Willow said. Such a statement was useless in terms of really proving himself, but at the moment it hardly mattered. Taro was either willingly extending a bit of his trust, or he knew that Willow had no reason not to be trusted, because he was a traitor or the mastermind.
"A traitor against Monokuma among us? Possible. Not incredibly likely. Still if that is so, then you are correct in saying that this "anti-Monokuma traitor" should have been killed as soon as Monokuma discovered them. Though I don't know how this traitor would have even known about this "game" to begin with. Perhaps Monokuma would allow such a person to live because they don't consider them a threat. Perhaps such a person is allowed to live because Monokuma thinks they make the game more interesting. If that's the case, Monokuma informing the group that if the traitors reveal themselves they die, would serve in part as a safeguard from this traitor gaining trust by telling people they oppose Monokuma." Willow speculated.
"Of course if one or both traitors work for Monokuma, they might not exactly like it. They might be doing that against their will. That would be another reason to reveal their presence to the rest of us. "Don't grow a conscience and confess that your working for us, or you will die." that's what the people behind Monokuma could be thinking. A revealed traitor is as good as a dead one anyway. It's entirely possible that the traitor would be affiliated with the group behind this, which is likely either an organization of sadists or some form of cult, and thus that traitor might know who the mastermind is or at least have an inkling. Only a brand new recruit or a pawn of said group wouldn't have even an idea. If one or both traitors are just regular students like us roped into it, they probably have no idea. " Willow continued.
"I would say that either both traitors work for Monokuma, or one works against him and one works for him. I do not think Monokuma would allow two such "Anti-Monokuma traitors' to live. If their is one such traitor who works for Monokuma, it is more likely, as he could see it as adding to the experience of the "game". That's my reasoning anyway. What do you think? And do you have any ideas about why the mastermind would reveal their own presence?" Willow asked. At least Taro was giving him the oppurtunity to voice his theories out loud. He had been thinking hard about this ever since he heard the second motive. The trickster could also gauge his reactions and see if he acted suspiciously.

Taro mumbled Willow's thought process word for word under his breathe, recreating his exact movements of his arms and legs, but in a quicker succession. Once he processed what Willow said, then he gave his own opinion.
"Out of the two options, if there are two different sets of traitors, then Iocus is somehow behind it. If the anti-Monokuma traitor was killed, then Iocus could not play village idiot to the game. Like my reasoning, it is the clever man who plays the fool. Iocus could very well be a traitor for despair or the mastermind behind this whole game and was using his stupidity to protect his cover as the one pulling the strings. Yet, if both traitors are working for the bear, then it could be anyone of us. But do you think the traitors know? Let's assume for a second that we are both traitors working under Monokuma, would we have no idea either one of us was actually a fellow traitor, or are we simply holding this conversation to convince passersby that we aren't said traitors. And is that true for the Mastermind as well? Obviously, the mastermind has to know the exact identities of the traitors, but does it work vise versa?"
Right! The other questions Willow had for him, he completely forgot about them.
" The mastermind only revealed himself because it was fun to do so. I believe that the mastermind craves fun and desires it fully. Being a part of this game is only fun in their eyes. That's it."

What odd behavior. Was Taro some sort of Clown?
"Interesting theory. An early death would have lead to Iocus being unable to plausibly deny the reality of the game. Still, considering he denied it even after the shooting and...strange reassembly of Shiro it still could be simple foolishness. Iocus should be kept an eye on regardless, so keeping that thought in mind couldn't hurt. As long as you don't bend the facts to fit the theory." Willow said.
"I belive their is a good chance that the traitors don't know each other. If one is against Monokuma and one is for him, the one who is against Monokuma would have no way of knowing who the other traitor is unless they deduced it or were aware of the traitor before even entering the game. The traitor working for Monokuma would probably only be made aware of the traitor working against him if they were trusted by the mastermind. If both traitors are working for Monokuma they could be either colleagues, blackmailer and blackmailed, or two fellow manipulated students. Two out of three involve a lack of or uneven distribution of knowledge. So it is most likely that the traitors don't know each other, or that only one traitor knows the identity of the second. " Willow continued.
"This works much the same for the Mastermind. If a theoretical anti-Monokuma traitor exists, by definition they have more knowledge then anyone else besides the other traitor and the Mastermind himself. How much they do know, it is impossible to say. However if they knew who the mastermind and the other traitor was, killing them would be the obvious thing to do. Though that depends on the motives of this anti-Monokuma traitor. I belive that the pro-Monokuma traitor would have insight if they were involved in the organization, they may not know who the mastermind is, but they would probably have a good idea. If the pro-Monokuma traitor was a student extorted into it, they would likely have no idea." Willow said.
"Finally, we did discuss this a bit before as I now recall. It is good to hear you clarify it again though. Allow me to proceed with the assumption that the mastermind is among us. Obviously the Mastermind does not seem to particularly care if they live or die. This is a double edged sword. On the one hand, it is good if the mastermind does die, as it reduces their ability to manipulate events. Even if they planned out something in case that occurs, they could not plan for every possible event. It would help us in our efforts to escape. On the other hand, the Mastermind can manipulate events as long as they live. Indeed they could even use their death in some way to move their plans forward. I am going to err on the side of caution and assume the Mastermind is an intelligent planner. Like all intelligent planners, they realize that they themselves are their most valuable card to play. A traitor or two could help, but they are the ones pulling the strings, this is their project. The other members of their organization didn't join in on the fun, with the possible exception of a traitor. They are going to be desperate to keep the game going and keep it interesting. People who stir up trouble or conflict for no good reason, should be looked closely at. The mastermind is our true enemy here. We should endeavor to find them and keep their influence minimal. " Willow went on.
"However, and this is important, baseless accusations and witch hunting are supremely unhelpful. They accomplish only distrust, which is exactly what the mastermind wants. Play the fool if you like, but don't play that sort of fool, as long as you don't want to appear to be the mastermind. I would also not recommend killing a possible Mastermind. I doubt it would truly end the game, Monokuma seems to have a controller of his own after all, unless he is some sort of sophisticated AI. Even though a dead mastermind may help us escape, it is not worth the risk of killing an innocent or dying after trial. " Willow finished.
"Thoughts? Questions? Concerns? Your input has already been helpful in clarifying my thoughts on this matter."

"I wasn't planning on killing them. The best scenario for all of us is to capture and restrain the mastermind alive. They may be intelligent, but torture, on the other hand, may get them to reveal our escape route."
Taro leaned back in deep thought. "But the question is, how do we go about discovering him or her."

"I don't know if I would advise torture unless absolutely necessary. But we will cross that bridge when we come to it. As far as finding the Mastermind is concerned, for now I would simply advise you and anyone else to watch and wait. During the course of our time here we may find some additional evidence or come up with a plan to expose them. I doubt they will fall for just any trick, so we have to choose our timing right, We must take advantage of every oppurtunity to figure out who they are, unless it would endanger all of us needlessly. " Willow said.
The trickster paused and went over everything that had been said and done.
"Anything else? I believe I have exhausted my current knowledge of the situation and any advice I could really give as to how to deal with it. " Willow asked. This meeting had been a lot more productive then he would have ever imagined, He still wasn't exactly sure how what the deal was with the survivor, but he had a bit better idea. And he had clarified and ordered his thoughts on the current situation.

Willow considered this. He certainly didn't trust Taro, and any information he could pry out of him could be useful. However this conversation had made him reevaluate how much of a risk he was. It was possible he was an idiot trying desperately to be smart. Understanding him further would be incredibly useful.
"Tell me more about yourself Taro. About the only thing I know about you is your title. Have any loved ones back home? Hobbies? Interests?" Willow asked.

"One loved one is in a coma. Best friend name Junpei. My parents divorced and married others after my birth. It wasn't the stereotypical loud arguing, but the fall out of love. Everything relating to the divorce went peacefully. They started their own families to the point where I had ten brothers and sisters, some half, some full and some step. Life was good. They all had their little quirks. But...."
Taro stopped for a second. He just sat in uncomfortable silence for a few minutes.
"Deceased. All of them. Hell, I even had more friends than I could count growing up. But, they died too."
He tilted his hat to have the brim cover his eyes.
"I've attended to many funerals to have a hobby."
