Science is the Poetry of Reality

Root quickly left the Log Flume, primarily because of the head in the log, and secondarily because water scared him a lot. And when he said a lot, he meant a lot. He was almost for afraid of the water than the head. He'd seen dead bodies, studied them, looked at the brains, but never really had he seen a severed head before. But she was already dead. It wasn't like they could do anything to change that. What really mattered now was that he didn't die. The hallucination of his father really wasn't helping at all. His mom was keeping his head on straight and his dad was making him feel more and more paranoid. He knew his dad wasn't actually like that, but the hallucination was acting like that paranoid little voice in someone's head.
"Keep an eye on her. She could kill you."
"Shut up Wentworth, you're scaring our boy. He likes the girl. She doesn't seem like the type that would hurt him."
"You barely know her! Who knows? She could be acting, and really evil underneath it all." God that sounds like Taro a few days ago. It didn't fucking matter. He just really didn't want to hear it from his dad anymore.
On the way to the Nurse's Office, Root was fairly silent, trying to craft what he was going to say to Mariko, but his mind kept going to the bickering between his parents, which continued on and on about whether or not Mariko was a good person or not. He wanted to yell at them to shut up. He wanted his dad to go away. He was fine with his mom, but this hallucination of his dad was getting to be too much for him. No, he had to be quiet and prevent from scaring Mariko even more. After all, she found a fucking head in the log flume. That probably scared her more than anything. Almost as bad as when Daisuke died.
"Mariko," Root said as they finally reached the Nurse's Office, and he began to look for more bandages, "I want to apologize for… for avoiding you. I… was just upset with myself. I told you… you could share my confidence, and I failed you. I hope you can forgive me." He wasn't looking at her the whole time he was speaking, his mom made a 'awwwww' sound while his dad pretended to vomit. He found the bandages and sat down, on the ground, facing towards Mariko, as he slowly unwrapped the bandage around his right hand.
