Willow walked into the bank. He had been patrolling the park again a lot lately. Mostly on force of habit, but partially out of well justified paranoia of a possible murder or an attempt on Birdie's life.
Luckily he had found just who he wanted to find. One Mariko Nakazawa. Ultimate Film Director and his friend Root's love interest.
"Ah. Just the young woman I was looking for. I wanted to talk to you concerning several pressing issues. First things first: have you told Root about your feelings for him?" Willow asked. He made sure to keep his tone casual, polite and friendly. People tended to react better to any question if the tone is right.

[/i] You know those scenes in literature when somebody hears something that catches them so completely off guard that they drop whatever it is they had been carrying to the floor, or they spit water or something to that effect? Well it's a good thing for Mariko's sake that she hadn't been eating or drinking anything but as Willow made his way into the bank she had been absent-mindedly going through a drawer of broken monocoins, obviously knowing they were unable to be used but she didn't have any other business here. At Willow's totally question Mariko slammed the drawer shut so fash she came about a hair's inch away from slamming her fingers in the register as she kept her back to the trickster, bug eyed in panic. Fuck, was it really that obvious? Keep calm Mariko you can handle this. Taking a moment to take a breath of steady herself and when she finally does turn around to face Willow she’s in the “I’m totally not lying in any way” posture, tugging on an earlobe and she’s become utterly fascinated with something that was six feet to the right and on the floor of the pretty boy "I, I-I-I-I...don't know what you mean."Nailed it.[/ul]

Willow sighed. Really? Really? First of all it was news to him that she was trying to keep this a secret. She practically had "I love Root" written in neon lights above her head. Secondly....really? She was trying to lie to him? And that was her best shot?
"Mariko...you do know what my talent is right? I am the Ultimate Trickster. The social sphere is my specialty especially when it comes to deceit. You are lying and lying quite badly. You don't have to be ashamed of your feelings. You shouldn't be in fact. I care deeply for Alexia myself. Just like I cared for Adrianna and Saoirse...like I still care for them. There is no shame in that." Willow said.
"You love him. That's not a question. The question here is...does he know it?" Willow asked. His plan...if you could call it that, depended on him knowing the answer to this question.

[/i] Fuck, why couldn't she have been born a better liar? Still not meeting the gaze of the younger boy Mariko sucked on the inside of her cheek and tried not to curse at herself for being so easy to read. There was a reason her sisters used to insist playing cards with her over who got the worst chores when they were younger, Mariko didn’t have what one would call a poker face. If there was any kind god listening right now, as she had been raised to believe there were she could make a hasty exit without Willow pressing this point any fu- "You love him. That's not a question. The question here is...does he know it?" Damn it. She debated not answering the other boy because quite honestly if you thought about it it was nobody's business but hers and Root's in the first place but she could never actually be that rude to anybody not named Taro after what he had done, and so after what seems like forever the girl blows out the big puff of air she had been holding in her chest and when she speaks again it's in a voice that's barely above a whisper. "...No."Well okay this conversation was happening now. Sheesh, could things get any worse this week? ...Let her take that back. That's a total jinx. [/ul]

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. How could two people be so dumb? Couldn't they tell how much they both cared about each other. He had taken risks in love and the Trickster was a coward. These two were just....so dense.
Didn't they see that life was so painfully short?
Willow sighed. He couldn't exactly judge them. Being in love was...scary. But he also couldn't allow them to keep their feelings to themselves. Not just because of his plan...the new trick he had devised....but also because he cared for both of them. Root was his friend and Mariko was a good girl. They deserved each other.
"Look, I understand. You don't want him turning you down or to risk losing your friendship with him. I know people Mariko. It's what I excel at. Seeing their motivations. Predicting their behavior or actions or reactions. Root loves you too. I had a conversation with him in the theatre when we couldn't sleep. I could see it on his face. You're the most important thing to him. He is as devoted to you as he is science...and for him that is saying quite a lot." Willow said.
"Root is a good man at heart. I know you know that. But...he also has one hell of a wall built up around him. From what I know about his past, that makes sense. Still it's not healthy for him to keep others at arms length like he does. Especially in this game. So...I am going to have to ask you a favor." Willow said.
"Make sure he doesn't hurt anyone. Don't get me wrong, I trust the man with my life. He is the only one still here besides Alexia I would go so far as describing as a friend. Thing is I don't trust him with his own, not with your safety on the line. He would kill Taro to get you out of here safe if you let him. Maybe even if you don't. He is scared, and sad and lonely and he doesn't want to be hurt again. I understand the impulse. He also doesn't seem to care much about himself. I doubt he would care if you hated him if the alternative was for you to be in danger." Willow explained.
"However his love for you might also keep him on the straight and narrow. He wants to be a better person for you Mariko. I believe he will try and set aside his selfish desires to keep you alive at the expense of the rest of us if you remind him that he is a good person. Show him that he has someone who loves him. That he isn't as alone as he thinks. If you do that...I am confident he will make the right choice." Willow said.
"I genuinely do want you to be together and to be happy. However...I would be lying if I said that I didn't have selfish reasons alongside the altruistic. I have a certain plot in mind and I need your trust for it alright? You don't have to give me much of it...you just have to believe that I want us all to get out of here safely and that I am being honest with you. That's what I need to work my magic. If I am right about this....if I am on the right track then it's possible I could get us all out of here with this. Alive. " Willow said.
"However you don't need to extend that trust to me right now. If it will help you, feel free to ask any question about me and I will answer truthfully. If you are not satisfied well then...it is only myself who has failed. " Willow said and waited for her response. He could only hope that he formulated his argument correctly. If not he may have sunk his only plan...or at least made it a lot harder to pull off.
