"...."
Taro looked down on the sobbing Root. A man completely broken to the core. A man who has lost everything.
"Willow. Willow. Willow. Willow. WILLOW FEY!!!!" His voice now seething with anger and rage like no other.
"How fucking inconsiderate are you! This man lost the woman of his life, his world, his everything, and you turn it into a pep-talk. And worse of all, you took her away from him."
He raised his gun that he picked up on the way and aimed it straight at Willow.
"You killed her. You caused her death. You said that they should be together. And then you took it away from him. You're at fault Willow. You will parish for this."
He then pulled pressure on the trigger and the bullet fired....right into the shoulder.....of Alexander Root.
He then got down on his knees and grabbed the shoulder wound with all his might.
"Do you understand this pain. This suffering. Even so, this external pain doesn't even hold a candle to the internal ones. It's a whole new level. Now think of having to go through this every single fucking year. And now you have become me. Alexander Root, let me tell you a secret I plan on taking to the grave and when everyone else's death is absolutely certain."
He whispered something into Root's ear. Something inaudible to be heard by Willow or Ignia.
"I think we have come to an understanding, Mr. Root."
He let go of the shoulder, threw the gun onto a bench and raised his hands in the air.
"Save us a trip and go hang yourself in the noose."

For small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love. Root looked down at Willow when he said his words, and he nearly lost the strength to hold himself up again. He knees felt weak like he was going to fall to them again, but he managed to stay up. A ghost of a smile appeared on his face as Ignia entered and also showed her support for him. It was hard for him to accept that anyone supported him, at all. He'd been so used to going at it alone, he'd been alone for so long. To have people saying they were here for him when he couldn't do anything, it felt so different than he was used to. How could anyone really care for him? He made sure he was a jerk, he made sure to insult them at every turn. He made sure to try to make them dislike him so they wouldn't get hurt by him. And yet, they were here claiming they cared for him.
"I'm sorry," Root croaked looking to Ignia, "For calling… you a liar. I just couldn't… couldn’t… believe that…" He couldn't finished. Instead, Taro started talking, and Root wanted to roll his eyes at the younger boy, the kid (and coming from the sometimes immature Root, that was saying something) because he just needed to shut up. He wasn't expecting the gun to be turned on him, but for a split second he feared his life was over. Even though he wanted to die, death was frightening. He wanted to die, but he didn't want to die. It was such a roller coaster in his head with so many confusing twists and turns, he didn't understand himself, he didn't understand what was going on in his head, and that was scary in its own term. Logic seemed to be but a whisper in his mind.
When the bullet tore through his shoulder, his damaged though still sensitive nerves firing on all cylinders, causing his brain to go on high alert, the pain causing his control of his tears to be lost and for him to cry out in pain. What's worse was Taro was speaking to him, holding the wound on his shoulder causing more pain. He barely even heard Taro's words, but they were understood with much effort. Root fell back, losing the will to even move, his body going limp. However, he had a response to Taro that he wanted to get out.
"Fuck you."

Willow hesitated just slightly after Root's "Fuck you" before he shot Taro in the shoulder.
"I told you Taro. You are not fucking allowed to speak. Especially not to Root. You have no right after all you've done. And you certainly aren't fucking allowed to shoot my friends. I know it was you who did this. I just need to find the proof. Once I do it will be my pleasure to cast my vote and give you the death you so yearn for." Willow said.
"Ignia...thank you. We will all get out of here. Once Taro is dealt with, all we have to do is find the Mastermind. Then we have nothing else to worry about." Willow said with an encouraging smile. He wasn't sure it would be that easy, but hope was a power all it's own.
"We should divide into teams for the purpose of investigation. I know not everyone is here but...Root what do you want to do?" Willow said, offering the scientist his sympathy.
He had been roughly where Root was before. Twice before. He got how Root was feeling. That this was the end of the world. He had to understand it wasn't. Whatever he decided, as long as it was safe, Willow would support it.

For small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love. He heard the shot of another gun going off and quickly raised his head to see Taro getting shot by Willow. It actually made him smile slightly. Slightly. It quickly faded away when Willow mentioned investigations. He laid his head back down and closed his eyes. He thought for a moment, trying to ignore the blinding pain in his shoulder. God, he needed some more pain medication. Some bandages. He needed to get fixed up, the physical pain was terrible, but Taro was wrong, while the emotional pain was worse, he would never become like Taro. Unlike Taro, it was his fault that his mother died. He couldn't protect the ones he loved. Taro had people he loved, many who died, probably, but Root, when someone was lost, his whole heart was torn from his chest, not little pieces, the people he loved meant everything to him. And when he lost them, he lost everything all at once. He didn't know much about Taro's history himself, but Root knew that he wasn't as batshit insane as Taro, and wouldn't become like him. Or at least he believed as much. And no matter what, from this moment on, he would fight against it as hard as he could, he'd be the opposite of Taro. So maybe Taro did do something good. He was making Root want to fight for something more than just himself.
He deserved this pain for not protecting the girl he loved. He deserved this pain for causing his mother's death. He deserved this pain for being an asshole. He deserved this pain for causing all the pain he caused others.
What should he do? Logically, going exploring and finding evidence to bring the killer to justice would be the right choice. Then maybe their first stop could be the Nurse's Office. But… he didn't want to leave Mariko. He didn't want to leave her here with someone else who could disrespect her, even if he… felt like Willow and Ignia would stop it, they probably needed and wanted to investigate to find out who did this and why, or pretty much prove that Taro was the asshole who killed Mariko. Root understand how someone could hate him, but he didn't understand why Taro was so focused on him in particular. It wasn't like he was the Hope Traitor… right? Ha. If he was the hope traitor Taro wouldn't know either way. So that couldn't be it. He specifically targeted him after the first trial and insulted his family for that recording. Of course he'd been a rude prick like he always was, but it was a bit much to target him this badly.
"I… I can't leave Mariko with anyone. I-I can't trust anyone with her. Sh-She deserves respect," Root pushed himself up with his left arm, as the right arm had been shot and was hanging loosely to his side, the pain still radiating as he slowly bled from his shoulder. The bullet hadn't completely torn through, even if it felt like it, looking at the wound more closely. It was wedge in there pretty deep, which was helping stop some of the blood floor. "And… I want a little more time with her, even though she's not…" He trailed off not continuing the line, having a hard time bringing himself to say 'alive anymore', because that would just beat it in farther when he just wanted to wake up from this horrid nightmare. "I don’t… want to sit around though. I want to solve this case. Bring the killer to justice. I want to bring down the Mastermind and make them suffer for doing this… to… to Mariko, to us. There's been so much… suffering, I don't want anyone to suffer anymore especially not you Willow. Or… or even you Ignia. Out of everyone here, I… I actually do care for the two of you a lot."
Root closed his eyes for a moment and focused on the pain in his shoulder. "I'll be fine. Everyone needs to worry about finding evidence. I'll take care of this wound myself." Or he would just let it bleed, and accept the pain as punishment. "We'll find out who did this and prove it together. I just hope it is Taro and not someone else…" Root looked to Taro once more and put his left hand against the bullet wound, feeling the warm blood against his hand. He swiped up some blood to coat his hand and stared at it for a moment. "I can't die until the killer is brought to justice and we all know what happened. After all," Root stood up without the help of a hand and forced on a half-grin, the most of a smile he could force, "What would you do without my logic in a trial?"

He grasped his shoulder in pain and turned to Willow.
"Missed an artery. The only difference between you and and the titanic is that the titanic saved at least one-third of the people it swore safe passage to. You will only get one-fourth if you're lucky."
He listened to Root and his eyes lit up once he heard of Root's bodyguarding duty.
"If Root is going to watch Mariko, I'll do likewise. Besides, I really can't do much investigating with this wound."
Taro lifted his gun and fired one more shot into the kneecaps of one of the students.
That student's name was none other than...
"AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!" Taro fell down. He dropped his gun and grasped his shattered knee with all his might.
"FUCK! God dammit!"
The screams he yelled echoed throughout the halls.
"I can't.......really......move around.......with a.......fucking blown-out......knee....."
He managed to use his good leg to prop himself up on one of the benches.
"Monokuma! If you could fetch me some crutches, that would really be despairful to the others. I'll think of why in 3-4 buisness days."
Not a single word spoken by Taro did not have a tinge of pain to it. It would take months of physical therapy, but it was worth it to get what he wants.

Ignia smiled at Root. "It's okay, Root. I forgive ya. I wouldn't have been any different if ya told me one of my loved ones was dead, ya know?"
Suddenly, a gunshot and a scream from Taro. "Wow. What the fuck?", she said. "Did ya just really shoot yerself in the knee?", she asked. And being quick of mind, Ignia picked up the gun Taro dropped and stashed it away in her pocket. "I'll just pick this up for safe keepin' alright? Don't mind if I do."
The arsonist nodded to Root's wish of staying in the church. "Alrighty. We'll leave no stone unturned. I'm sorry yer stuck with Taro, though. Maybe we should be pickin' up the pace so we get this over with sooner."
With these words, Ignia walked out of the church, and she happened to come across Iocus. Before he entered the church and made fun of the suffering Root, she stopped him.
"Good timing, Iocus!", she said, grinning. "Wanna investigate with me? Root 'n' Taro are body watch for Mariko. I dunno who Willow will investigate with, though."

I walked towards the place that the commotion was coming from. Something must have happened in there. They must be praying Taro's ugliness away! That would explain the shouting coming from inside. God must not be listening since it's not working so they are praying louder and louder!
Well either way. It was worth checking out, which is why I was headed there. I'm sure I could come up with something good!
I saw Ms Pyre coming towards me.
"Good timing, Iocus!", she said, grinning. "Wanna investigate with me? Root 'n' Taro are body watch for Mariko. I dunno who Willow will investigate with, though."
"Ok"
"Wait, Ms. Flick died? Huh"
I started to write jokes in my head for the trials. I would knock them dead! Not Mariko though, she already did that.

For small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love. Root's eyes darted over to Taro as he gave his monologue and drew a gun. While he was weakened by the blow to his shoulder, he was still standing and he closed his eyes, expecting another bullet to hit him. For a split second he thought it was the end, that Taro finally would kill him, bring himself down for certain, and relieve him of this great pain he felt. However, in that same split second his heart jumped in fear, fearing what would have happened when he died, knowing he hadn't been the most virtuous person, and even believed God to be an asshole. Of course, he had always thought none of it would matter either way, seeing as this him would disappear as he created a paradox in order to ensure his mother's survival. I failed. That was what he thought his last was going to be, but instead the gun fired and someone screamed. Was that his voice? Had he lost control?
He opened his eyes and saw the blood coming from Taro's leg. He'd shot himself in the knee. "Fucking idiot." Now he was going to be stuck with Taro while he watched Mariko. He rather that someone who he was comfortable breaking down in front of him to be the one to stay with him. He didn't trust Taro as far as he could throw him and with his lack of strength, that was pretty much nowhere. He didn't trust that Taro would keep his fat mouth shut and not hurt him more. He didn't trust that Taro wouldn't insult Mariko right in front of him, or that he would try to do something and he couldn't stop him from disrespecting her body.
Root took a deep breath. Alas, that was the case. He'd have to be stuck with the asshole. "Why the fuck did you fucking do that? You're going to be fucking injured for weeks. Unless, of course, you know you're going to die at the fucking trial so you won't need to walk around anymore. But of course, you want to stay here, that's why you did it. What is it for? More despair? I'm fucking sorry, but you can't do that. You'll be stuck with the one sunk farthest already. Can't work your magic on anyone else." Root clenched his left fist, the blood on his hand squishing. He tried to clench his right, but the shoulder injury made it painful so he gave up trying.
He turned to Willow a scowl on his face. There were still three unaccounted for that Root knew about, not knowing Ignia had stopped by and picked Iocus up before seeing the body. Willow was probably worried about Alexia, similar to how he had freaked out about… after he had found Shabots. "Willow, if you would check him for any more guns, make sure he has absolutely no more, and fucking gag him, that would be great. I would but I only have one functional arm right now." He was angry obviously, frustrated that he'd be stuck with this idiot. "And… if I could have a gun for protection. Just in case. I won't… hurt myself. And I won't kill him. But if it tries anything I'll make him hurt even more." Root took another deep breath to calm himself before he frowned and tears started threatening to fall once more. "Then… Then go find Alexia. She's… she's far more important right now. Keep… keep her close, because… who knows if she'll…" Root trailed off. He wished he had more time with Mariko. To hold her close and tell her he loved her, to make her feel loved. That time between the first trial and the second… it was terrible and he regretted avoiding her. He wished… "I'll make sure he doesn't do anything. We'll… we'll get out of here. Just get us the evidence we need."

Ignia tried her hardest to keep Iocus from seeing the dead body of Mariko. "Yeah.", she said sounding as cold as ever. She couldn't let the Comedian know that her death, or in fact, every death, got to her. "Somebody shot her, according to the Monofile."
The girl then walked into the direction of the castle. "Why don't we check some of the bedrooms out? There's gotta be somethin' of use there, ya know?"
As she walked ahead, she began thinking.
"Let's hope we actually find somethin'. We can't disappoint Root now. We have to find whoever did this 'n' make 'em pay..."
She then noticed something particular in her pockets. The gag Taro had on him when the Arsonist found him in the bank. Hoping that Iocus wasn't gonna care, Ignia quickly slipped back into the church and approached Willow.
Looking at him, she handed him the gag. "Ya might need this, Willow. Just in case, ya know?" Patting him lightly on the shoulder, she walked back out of the church, and joined with Iocus again.

Willow crossed over to Taro, and searched his person for more guns. After completing said task, he took any guns away from him. He accepted the gag with a thanks and quickly stuck it back in Taro's mouth.
"Be careful and keep a close eye on him. I'll see you at trial with evidence and Alexia in tow." Willow said, giving him one last encouraging smile before turning and leaving.
Shortly thereafter Willow met up with Alexia. After informing her what had happened, the two move to investigate.

"What about Koji? Does nobody remember the guy who shot Shiro like ten seconds after we met?" He said after taking the gag out of his mouth because it was pointless to have a gag in his mouth if you aren't even going to tie him up to prevent him from simply removing said gag.
For a group of students who managed to survive two trials, they sure were getting sloppy.
His knee still bled and was getting ghostly white from blood loss.
He slid down the wall.
"Alexander Root. I'm truly sorry about these events. I know grief better than anyone in here. The best course of action now is to make sure you do what you have to do. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors."
His voice was soft and his body was being supported on various benches as he hopped around. Until he collapsed on the floor, slowly getting weaker and weaker.
"If your thinking about making me suffer, then don't bother. There's nothing you can do that I haven't already felt. Unless you plan on making me the fourth victim..."

For small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love. Root approached Taro with an angry frown on his face. He placed a bit of pressure on Taro's knee with his foot. As much as Root would love to make Taro the fourth victim, he reached into his lab coat pockets and pulled out one of the wraps he gathered for his hands. Of course his hands were still tightly bound to try to help heal the broken bones, which he broke on the kid's face. He released the pressure on the guy's injured knee and dropped the wrap to him. "You're bleeding all over the crime scene. At least try to stop it." He might hate the kid but he wasn't going to kill him. Too bad he hadn't thought of Taro just taking the gag off if he wanted to talk, but then again he thought he'd have a gun to threaten the boy with for the whole taking off the gag. It was unfortunate, and hopefully, in the end, Root wouldn't need a gun and Taro wouldn't say something stupid.
Root peeled off his lab coat for a moment and then took off his shirt, the fabrics sticking to his shoulder wound. "As much I as fucking hate you, I won't fucking kill you." Root walked to where the crumpled sandwiches were, and picked up a bottle of water he'd picked up at the café as well for Mariko. The whole time he was keeping an eye on Taro, ready to bolt over to the kid and injure him further, if he made any movement towards Mariko, and given Root's speed, he'd stop Taro before he tried anything to Mariko. Once he grabbed the bottle of water with his left, he positioned himself between Taro and Mariko once more. He sat on the ground and opened the bottle, holding the bottle between his legs and opening the cap with his left hand. With a combination of a bullet in his shoulder and a still healing hand, his right arm and hand were completely useless. The pain was still stinging. Root pulled out a couple of pain pills and popped them into his mouth, taking a swig of the water. Then, he poured a bit of the water over his arm to clean the area around the bullet hole before taking a deep breath and reaching in to pull the bullet out of his arm. He yelled out in pain, but kept his eye on Taro just in case he tried anything, and since he was between him and Mariko, even a slower reaction due to pain would still intercept any action tried to be taken in Mariko's direction by Taro.
Then, he reached for his lab coat and tore off the already bloodied parts. It wasn't a freshly cleaned coat, but it would do. If only he'd picked up some gauze he wouldn't have to bastardize his coat. Either way, he tore the fabric so it would wrap around his arm and then applied two of the four wraps he had picked up earlier to hold everything together. It hurt like hell, but it would at least hold pressure and the coat would provide at least some sort of blood absorption as gauze would. After this was all over, he'd be able to properly treat it, but for now, all he cared about was doing well enough to make it through the trial.
"Now, we need to look around for evidence." Root looked at Taro anger still in his eyes, his focus would never shift from the guy, at least while they were in the church investigating because he didn't trust him. At all.

"I would love to help investigate, but there's a blown-out knee. You're going to have to support me in order to investigate anything. And before you think about leaving me, nobody will trust a man who investigated on his own, especially if he left me alone at the crime scene."
Taro cleaned up his wound the best he could and tried to stand up on one leg.
"Those pain-pills also look good. I won't need water for them. I'll take them dry."

For small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love. Root looked at Taro with an incredulous look before laughing aloud. "I might not be a complete asshole, but you don't deserve pain pills. You fucking did this to yourself. You're lucky I'm giving you the wrap." He threw the final wrap at Taro to help with his shoulder wound as the one before was for his knee wound. "I just rather the bear not blame Willow for your death." Root shook his head as he stood up and began to look around the room, any evidence at all that he could find. His notebook was gingerly in his right hand. He swallowed two extra pain pills, which was probably a little too much, but not enough to overdose, and took the last sip of water with them. At least his arm, which was throbbing in pain, was wrapped up and it was starting to at least feel a little better being wrapped as it was. However, it also prevented his right arm from being much use.
"They're already going to have to trust me and me alone," Root said with a shake of his head, "No one is going to trust you no matter what. I could lie if I so wished and you saying it wasn't like that, well who would they believe? They know I didn't do this, though I haven't ruled myself out. But you're suspect number one." Root held up his journal in Taro's general direction. On the page he had out it read:
Taro: Victims, General Attitude
Willow Ignia: First told me about her Koji: Guns Alexia: Knows how to wield gun probably Ken: Not Trustworthy, Failed to live up to his word Root: Memory, Rage - Killed Killer of Mariko and suppressed memory? Mamouro: Theater, Mariko's favorite place Mugen: Accidental Suicide? Guilt?
Of course if Taro could read it that was, given his handwriting was somewhat small and Taro wasn't right close to it. Root never ruled out himself in any case, because he knew his memory was faulty and could very well forget something. However, killing someone would probably constitute a strong memory that he'd remember. Most of the time he had a sense if he'd forgotten something, and he didn't have that sense right now. "Unfortunately for you, I have one arm not working thanks to you, so I wouldn't be able to help support you and guard myself from any attack you might try. So, you're going to crawl." Root shot Taro an almost sinister half-grin which faded when he looked back to searching the church.

Taro just tossed the wrap aside.
"If I die from this wound, then Willow will die. He's going to anyways. You should know that more than me. Do you think I am the type of man who will back down on my promises? Willow will die. He killed your girlfriend. Him and that bitch of a partner he's protecting from harm. We both know that he has this coming for a while now! A fucking while!" Taro vented to Root. He stood up quickly as he could, only recoiling when he put to much pressure on his leg.
"He killed your girlfriend. He slaughtered her and yanked her on that cross like some sort of cruel joke! How can you be blind to this?! Huh?"
Taro took a minute in silence to calm down.
"That notebook. Write down how many times you took those pills and when. It's incredibly addicting. I should know. Took me six years to realize that you don't need painkillers when your not in pain. I took them for the emotional pain. Sorta repressing the nightmares. Root, don't ruin your life like this. I will do all I can to protect you from the problems faced before you."
Taro Yamada looked down onto the floor.
"You don't have to support me. Just give me some crutches or something of the like. I can manage with the pain of the shoulder wound enough to move around. It's no good for a body guard to be unable to defend the body."
