The battle had taken it's losses. The spiders were going to win the war for sure. Koji was dead and Alexia would soon follow his steps. That is, if he took any steps. He died.
Willow threw a gun at me. He wanted me to cover him while he and Ignia picked up Alexia and took her to safety. That wasn't going to work. They had the combined strength of a buff hamster on steroids. I needed to buy them time. I needed to distract the spiders so that they can get away. And I had just the right weapon to do so.
I put the gun in my pocket and grabbed my rolled up paper with both hands. I would need the gun for when I actually saw the spiders.
I then proceeded to do the all well known spider intimidation dance. I flailed my arms around, swinging the newspaper in random directions. I stayed close to the others as they began to take Alexia's soon to be corpse away from the Monokumas fighting the spiders.
"Let's go to quickly! I am a nurse remember? I can help keep the fuzz alive!"

Alexia Takana’s eyes fluttered weakly as she was lifted up by her friends, and they began to carry her to the Nurse’s Office. Her final emergency gun was tucked into its holster snugly, unused in the battle. Through the haze…she could see their faces. Willow Fey, the SHSL Trickster. Ignia Brand, the SHSL Arsonist. And she managed a weak, blood-spattering giggle at Iocus Hilares, the SHSL Comedian, and his spider dance. Her brow furrowed as she saw the bits of blood she had coughed onto Willow’s face.
“’M’sorry…” she muttered, once again falling silent. From then, there was nothing but silence as she was jostled up and down. But something was wrong. The sky…was it…cracked?
No, that was impossible.
But still, it lingered in her vision. The thin spider-cracks along the sky, with flickering colors along them. Was it…heaven, coming to take her? Perhaps not even God could break through the oppressive park known as Monoworld. Or maybe…the Future Foundation had finally started coming in waves. They would finish what she and Koji had started. What Ken had started. And she was about to give them one hell of a helping hand.
With a shaky breath, Alexia quickly drew her gun with the last of her strength. With a violently trembling arm and a sob of apprehensive happiness, her finger squeezed the trigger, and a bullet twirled through the air toward the vivid blue sky. And when it made impact…
The sky shattered loudly and violently, as everyone was pitched into absolute darkness. Glass shards dropped from the sky like raindrops, and a gun clattered to the ground. Alexia’s arm dropped, and with a final inhalation of air, she whispered: “Good luck.”
Your hero, Alexia Takana, the SHSL Police Officer…
No. Alexia Takana, the SHSL Hope, slipped peacefully into the night.

Ignia sighed sadly once she heard Alexia whisper her final words. It was too late to do anything for her now. She looked up for a brief second and saw glass shards falling her way. Since she didn't want to be impaled by them, she looked at Willow and Iocus too.
"Oi, Willow, Iocus! We'd better get a move on! Let's get to the Supply Store quickly!"
Still carrying Alexia's lifeless body, Ignia pointed to the inside of the Supply Store with her head.
"Come on, let's get in there!", she spoke. "In there we'll be safe, ya know?"

Alexia Takana was dead. And suddenly the sky began to fall. Willow thought for a moment this must be some cruel, surreal dream, but realized quickly enough that it couldn't be. Victor wasn't there blaming him for everything that happened. Karen wasn't abandoning him. She wasn't there, blaming herself. Adrianna wasn't sleeping in front of him forever, so close and yet past his grasp. Willow wasn't murdering Saoirse and cutting her into pieces. Mariko and Root weren't calling for help as Monokuma kept tearing them to pieces. Ken wasn't being devoured by the very crows that had been Willow's own personal metaphor.
It was all so horrible, but what gave it up that it wasn't a dream of his was that it wasn't horrible enough.
Willow carried Alexia's limp body into the supply store as fast as he and Ignia could carry it. Willow had a few cuts on him from the glass but nothing too serious. He laid the police officer down and collapsed against the wall, staring vacantly forward. It was all so useless in the end wasn't it? No matter what he tried it didn't ever work. Despair washed over him in waves. Some Hope traitor he turned out to be in the end. Ending it all was tempting in a world gone to hell, sitting next to the corpse of the last friend in here he swore to protect. He spent several minutes considering his next move. Should he commit suicide? Blow his head off before Ignia could take the gun away? He would be quick enough that was for sure.
Or maybe he should rally the troops? Convince the others that it would be better to go down fighting against Monokuma then to give the Mastermind what he wants? That would serve him right. Give the audience at home an example. Some reason to fight. Give them some hope at least. Maybe in that way Willow wouldn't have completely wasted his time here.
Wasted...his...time?
"I swear... you can try the patience of a saint." An echo of a voice from Gods...it seemed like ages ago. Yet it was probably only a bit over a month or so. "We need to leave this dump. For the sake of our own blood."
Saoirse...that was Saorise's voice. Saoirse's words. She had a point, leaving this place wasn't just for his own sake. It never had been. The trickster had family and friends and a lover to get back to. They could still be out there in one of the safe zones. Willow couldn't recall how he ended up the Hope Traitor but he knew he wouldn't have gone in if their wasn't someone he was fighting for on the outside.
"Do you have a goal?" Another voice, this one he hadn't heard that long ago. Hearing it in his mind rattled him. "Like, something you strive for.?"
Of course he did. That's why he had shown up at Hope's Peak in the first place. A goal to make the world more full of wonder. Kinder, gentler, a better place. One filled with Hope and not tilted to far in either the spiritual or materialistic direction. Everything he had done was an attempt to bring about that world, even while having fun.
But here he was drowning in the blood of former comrades. Willow couldn't possibly overcome Despair. He had been throwing himself into the task of defying it ever since he got here. Even before. But it had all been useless. Small people with small minds had been shooting down others since time began. Every time he had tried to fight he had been knocked to the floor and kicked while he was down. He had to admit that Despair was truly a force to be reckoned with.
"A force to be reckoned with, you say? I must admit, it does have a nice ring to it." Adrianna had said. Even now he could hear her voice. If he closed his eyes he could go back to the day when she said them all those weeks ago. "I'm afraid the bear would have to try harder than that."
That was it wasn't it? Giving in now would be letting despair win. Willow couldn't afford to settle for anything less then getting everyone left out of here. A spark of Hope was lit in the dark, ocean that was despair. It consumed everything, in sight. That was fitting wasn't it? Despair was oil and Hope was fire. It might be hard to find it when out to sea, but once you found even a little bit, despair was bound to be consumed. None of this had been a waste! He had met good people here and tried to help them. Working subtly behind the shadows to get them past the trials they faced while strengthening their bonds. None of it had been his fault.
It had all been the Mastermind's.
"Ok lady and gentleman. New plan. Same as the old one but better. We are getting out of this fucking theme park from hell and we will find out who the Mastermind is and punish them for what they've done. Then we are going to link up with the Future Foundation, find our families and purge despair from this world. Everyone in despair will be rehabilitated and we will build the new world in tribute to the old one, but not making the same mistakes. Who's with me?" Willow said, getting up with a fierce grin. This was the final battle, all or nothing.
Willow wanted it all.
