Woah. This place is huge. I mean, I knew the manor was going to big, but it's still shocking seeing just how big it is. The walls are intricately designed and lined with pictures of the rest of the contestants during high points of their careers, even those who didn't get in still have a photo. Where did they get the money to create all this? This all seems so-
At that moment, Orica walked in.
"Oh, uh, hey Orica! W-What are you doing here? Well, I guess this is the m-main hall, so that r-really answers that question."
Nice one. You messed up another first impression. Let's just hope she doesn't take that as a sign of weakness. The last thing I need is for her to use that against me.
"So, what do you think of the m-manor so far? I think this place is a b-bit too luxurious for some of us. It's going to be hard getting used to it."
It's still pretty nice though. This manor has all sorts of things here. I'm still surprised that they put all these resources into this show.
"Do you see any p-pictures of you on the wall? I t-think they're s-supposed to be photos of high points in our lives or something."
Why even bother asking? If I've got a photo on the wall, then there is no doubt that someone like Orica has one too. Honestly, why do I even bother making conversation with others at this point?

Orica made her way into the Main Area. She had registered that someone else was in the room but paid them no mind until she heard her voice. Turning towards the source her constant glare looked at who said it, Liam, the “Other” Knight. The fact he seemed to be getting that kind of reputation already was a good evidence of his weakness. He was already viewed in the eyes of others as less than her and the way he was acting, barely able to talk to someone, just added more to the pile of evidence.
”The manor is serviceable as a dwelling but I am uncertain of it's defenses. I do understand it's not meant as a fortress but it is still improper to build a building without defending it in mind.” Turning to look at the picture she saw hers, some generic shot of her fighting someone. ”And those pictures are laughable. If there was anything truly worth wasting that much time or effort in honoring then why are they even bothering with this farce? It's pointless cheerfulness, trying to massage the weakness of someone who doesn't think they are strong enough to be here.

She just got here, and she's already trying to determine how defensible this manor is as a fort. I can't say she's not prepared, but there's really nothing to be afraid of. The Remnants of Despair have all either been killed off or rehabilitated.
"I don't see the p-point in trying to gauge this place's defences. There's nothing to really defend against. Despair might as well be d-dead, and I don't think anyone's going to risk trying to break in here."
It doesn't take an Ultimate to figure out that 'massage the weakness of someone who doesn't think they're strong enough to be here' comment was directed at me. Nice to see I was right about Orica not liking most of us, me most of all it seems.
"You didn't l-like the photos? I think they're a nice reminder of the fact that we're all Ultimates, and that we're all here for a reason."
Liam's photo was him shaking hands with someone official-looking, who happened to be handing him an award.
I remember that. How could I forget? The whole situation is what led to me becoming an actual Ultimate, but looking at everyone else here makes me think that making me an Ultimate was a mistake. There's already another knight here who's better at it than me.
"How come you keep going on about everybody being either strong or w-weak? Not to be judgemental or anything like that! Sorry. It's just that the way you talk about it, it seems like being strong is the only t-thing that matters to you."
It really is the only thing she goes on about. It's like every moment of her life was a combat situation she had to be prepared for, or that if she ever wasn't strong enough, someone would come along and kill her.

Orica glared at Liam, granted such a gaze seemed to be her default state, but still, being on the receiving end of it wasn't something most people would enjoy. ”Oh course Strength is the most important thing,” She said, turning to face him directly and crossing her arms in front of her. ”You see these photos as something sentimental as a reminder of why everyone here, but it is empty assurance. If you were strong you wouldn't need it. What I did yesterday is in the past. There is no use dwelling on it. An Achievement is to be noted before moving on to the next task.”
Orica then turned and looked off at nothing. ”As for your assurance that Despair is gone, that is one of the biggest weaknesses of all. The epitome of putting the past on a pedestal. 'Hope defeated Despair' you must think. 'We're safe.'” She turned back and glared at him, even more intensely somehow. ”If that is your train or thought then you are already dead. Hope is weak, even though Despair is just as weak, two weaklings will just stay locked in a stalemate. If there is even a chance that someone is hiding in the shadows ready to strike you need to prepare for their attack, to show them the weakness they try to cover up by hiding is truly weak.”
Orica pointed at Liam with her left arm, the one that looked like it had a dragon skull on it. ”You see this place as a monument to the victory of Hope and a return to a world before Despair. That makes it the perfect thing for Despair to topple if it wishes to prove they aren't as dead as everyone assumes. It is inevitable.”

She really believes that being strong is the only thing that matters. I guess it's a good trait to be able to move past your own achievements, but it sounds like she doesn't care about them at all.
"H-How could despair possibly s-still be around? We've all s-spent years making every effort to kill it off. How could it possibly survive that? T-There's no way it's still around. I know hope isn't weak like you say it is, because it's already won and beat despair."
Despair is dead, right? I can testify to my own efforts in killing it. There's no way it could survive after everything we've done, after the sacrifices everyone had to make. It has to be gone. That glare she's giving me tells me she thinks otherwise, though.
It sounds like she has a hatred of cowards and anyone that doesn't face a challenge head-on. I'm guessing that means Orica and I have no hope for getting along. I'm just another weakling in her eyes, and I'm guessing everyone else here is the same. All too weak to get any sort of respect from her.
"What could despair even h-hope to do against this place? Despair has to be too weak now to do anything. E-Even if it was still strong enough, there has to be better places to attack than this."
The little bits of despair that could be still around wouldn't be able to do anything here. There's twenty of us symbols of hope, all ready to fight it if we have to. There's no way we would lose, right? I've seen what despair is like now. It won't be able to do anything.
"I should get going n-now. I still have parts of the manor to explore. I'll see you sometime soon."
Here's hoping she'll believe in hope a little more the next time around.
