THE WORLD'S ON HEROIN
AND THE WORLD KEEPS TURNING AT A TURTLE'S PACE
[attr="class","les"]Although the stairwell stood out from the mostly Victorian-esque layout of the house, its appearance didn't strike Mayumi as anything special. It was just another spiral staircase with LED lights. However, one part of it did intrigue her. Behind the black rods is the vacant middle of the stairwell. Although it was brightly lit, at least it was a private space.
She didn't dare think of going through the bars, considering how the space was cramped, and it would prove difficult trying to ease through the rods at her size. There wasn't much to do on the second floor, so she decided to just lean against the wall and think to herself.
Folding her arms she thought about the current situation at hand. Monokuma's back, he has a motive for killing, Ai can't do shit, and the aroma of distrust fills the entirety of the manor. She knew someone such as herself wouldn't make it out alive, there was just no other answer. People were intimidated by her, and in turn she was cold toward most. She was most likely seen as a threat to a fourth of her peers, but it didn't bother her at all. Mayumi was never the kind of person to obsess over how people view her, thus she stopped considering this possible outcome. She put on her headphones to ease the stress she was facing, and imagined that the floor was painted with stars. | [attr="class","goodness"] ✉ @nobody ✎ 0000 words |

Some time would pass but Orica would approach the stairwell and look into the private area in the middle. Her ability to get through the bars was probably hampered more by her armor than anything else, but she would probably get past them if she wanted to. The bars just might not be in the same condition when she was done.
She noticed Mayumi but paid her no mind, as she didn't really pay anyone that much attention. It was probably something like not considering anyone here to be a threat to her, even though they were supposed to kill each other now or something like that. For the time being she seemed more interested in getting a good grasp of the layout of this private area than anything else. The question would be if she was looking at it as a safe place to be or a safe place to trap someone.

THE WORLD'S ON HEROIN

[attr="class","les"]As Mayumi thought to herself, she could feel an overwhelming presence near her personal space. There was only one person in this manor that could have that effect, Orica. She knew that the heir paid her no mind, as if she didn't exist. Mayumi observed her stare at the black bars holding up the stairwell, much like she did a few minutes prior to Orica's arrival. However, unlike her she noticed a spark of ill intent in Orica's eyes. Her mind went crazy as her expression remained calm and annoyed as always.
She seems like the kind of person who can remove one of those fucking rods to kill someone, but that could potentially hinder access to the second floor so that would be an idiotic move. Or perhaps… she sees this as a place to trap someone. She could imagine Orica bending the rods so they couldn't escape, but that would prove fruitless as well, because someone would obviously take notice of them - even if her victim's mouth was duct taped.
She audibly sighed, hoping the knight would take notice. She was aware that Orica was going to get riled up, but this could be a moment where she could see if there was a heart buried beneath that armor of hers… because she knew the princess was short on a few brain cells. | [attr="class","goodness"] ✉ @nobody ✎ 0000 words |

Orica heard Mayumi's sigh but made no show of acknowledging it. It wasn't her problem if someone like that was feeling melancholic or something after what just happened. Not being able to deal with it was just another sign of their weakness. For an attempted to break the earth to see if there was a heard buried somewhere deep in her it was only hitting the topsoil. If there was one it was buried at least 6 feet under, and that might mean it would be dead if she found it.
She started seeing how strong the bars were, not trying to bend them but see how well in place they and the rest of the stairwell would hold up. She obviously wasn't trying to rip the stairs to pieces but it was obvious that she could at least look like she was capable of doing that. Granted that only really meant that it would be a bad place to try to trap her in, that is, if anyone was strong enough to even try.

[attr="class","les"]Of course Orica paid her no mind. She assumed the knight was thinking: "bluh, yer weak, yuh deserve death or some shit, bluh," what a dumbass.
She continued to feel the bars, as if to test their durability. That proved Mayumi's theory right, or at the very least to see if she would be able to make it out if she were trapped. After the overwhelming silence, she decided to end it by voicing her thoughts, proving whatever was in Orica's head false.
"Sorry to break it to you, but making this stairwell a dungeon is a fucking asinine idea, and you'd be more of a halfwit if you think you could be trapped there too." | [attr="class","goodness"] ✉ @nobody ✎ 0000 words |

Orica didn't look towards Mayumi, but she at least replied. ”That is obvious.” She said, looking into it a bit closer. ”It is a terrible place to hide, to defend, or to put something. The only use I could see for it is perhaps somewhere to hide to sneak attack someone so I was originally investigating it for that reason.”
Stepping back from it she glared at the private space in the stairwell. ”But if anyone here thinks they can use such deception to bridge the gap between their weakness and my strength then they are sorely mistaken. If they dared to try the bars would not protect them from me when it fails.” Orica's words oozed with confidence, or rather certainty. If someone tried to mess with her then she at least seemed like she knew they would fail. It was hard to gauge where the ego stopped and the belittlement began. Everyone else was already weak in her eyes.

[attr="class","les"]The cockiness in her voice made Mayumi wince. How would a princess like THAT be fit to be queen? This wasn't the Middle Ages any more, rulers aren't bloodthirsty war mongers, they're supposed to provide for their people and make sure everything is in order and blissful. She considered comparing Orica to Queen Mary I, but they were jarringly different so that would make her a hypocrite. She needed to get the message across that her behavior isn't suited for royalty without Orica even considering her weaknesses. Then she thought of someone else to compare her to.
"Tell me, aside from the government systems, what is the difference between you, and Idi Amin, the previous President of Uganda? His rule started out fairly tame after his coup d'état with good intentions, but power corrupted him and he turned out to be a globally despised ruler. You aren't tainted yet, but your morals and self-righteousness will turn you into a hated leader as well, regardless of whether you'll turn out be a 'decent' queen or not." | [attr="class","goodness"] ✉ @nobody ✎ 0000 words |

Without skipping a beat she replied, ”Obvious he was weak. To let himself be corrupted by power like that is a true sign of weakness. For you to assume I am as weak as him is an insult to me, but one I have come to expect from the people here. If I were to let the words of others effect me so much it too would be a weakness.”
Orica failed to mention one of the more important aspects of her personality as the prospective heir of Schwertfeld. The person that Mayumi was assuming was unfit to lead was the kind of person they wanted. Her whole country, or at least the group of people holding themselves together saying they still were a country, was like this. She was the Schwertfeldian Ideal. The idea that she would be a hated leader was as wrong to her as thinking Hope was a thing worth supporting.

[attr="class","les"]Here she goes on about weakness again. It's like she thinks of everything as black and white, and she may as well be the only person who sees herself as a strong individual. Mayumi's comment was intended to be an insult to Orica's logic and morality, yet Orica saw it as a general put-down. She didn't feel the need to prove herself to the heir, but if she was going to get through this game alive, then she needed to get on her good side.
"And you think power doesn't corrupt? Even the best of leaders, Atatürk, Lincoln, and Elizabeth I all had some darkness and weaknesses within themselves after seizing power. Nobody is perfect, everyone has their weaknesses, but we're all human after all, everything isn't just black and white. You have to see that not as a future ruler, but as a person. You have good intentions, but being an asshole about it won't get people from outside your kingdom to heed your words."
She awaited a fist to fly right in her face, anticipating impact, knowing Orica wouldn't take it well. | [attr="class","goodness"] ✉ @nobody ✎ 0000 words |

Orica glared at her but she didn't take a swing. After all, getting angry at someone for saying something that got under your skin was a weakness and one she definitely couldn't allow in an environment like this, so she merely glared at her.
The armored girl crossed her arms. ”If I am corrupted by the power I obtain when I become queen then I am weak and someone stronger should merely kill me. That is the price of the weakness you say I would be unable to stop myself from having. And if the outside world doesn't wish to help us then we will live on our own. To have to rely on others to survive is also a weakness. Strength is your right to live and without it you are doomed to die.”
Orica showed no hesitation in what she said. If her power corrupted her, if she became a tyrant like so many assumed she would, she would have no qualms with being killed for it. Such was her Strength. The Strength to Live and the Strength to Die.
