Good Meals, Good Friends, Good Laughs, Good Murders, What more could anyone want? I smiled as I walked into the dining room. Despite the motives, the unease and the fear, there was something important to do. That something, was bake. In this world, there wasn't much I could do to combat despair, except for what I was born to do. And if that was bake, then I might as well bake. After all, if I can make one person smile with my baking, then I think I've done a good job.
"I'm glad that's over with. Took a bit of getting used to, but I think I've mastered the oven." I said with a smile as I put down a fresh plate of cookies, their aroma entering the air. There was no point in getting down on yourself after all. Monokuma, he can't touch you unless you break the rules. And as long as we follow them and don't even consider murder, we'll be fine. Besides, if any of the previous killing games have taught me anything, it's that his motives are pointless. They're all fake... right?
As Nero thought to himself, he spotted a certain knight out of the corner of his eye.

Orica was on her way towards the dining room already when she noticed Nero setting down a plate of cookies. Normally she would just ignore something like that and be on her way, but there was a chance that there was something sinister in those baked goods. ”It seems that your title is at least worth something, but skill alone does not make one Strong,” She said, looking down at the plate of cookies.
Looking back at him she said, ”Now, tell me all of the reasons you can think of why it would be a bad idea to have poisoned these, or anything else that you bake. Think not of why it would be wrong in the situation you are in, but ever. Just because you are a part of the bear's attempts to manipulate us you should be able to stand Strong in your convictions.”

Good Meals, Good Friends, Good Laughs, Good Murders, What more could anyone want? Nero frowned at the knights comment, and opened his mouth for an insult... before remembering that he was talking to Orica, the Princess of another kingdom. Food Poisoning is a very real problem for those in power, especially in governments involving succession by lineage.
"Why should I not poison my food? It's as simple a question as 'Why do I not poison myself?' For many generations, the Fiammes family have been bakers for the highest of customers with our food. We've held our name with pride as we went from generation to generation. Even the first Fiammes was told to have personally served food to the Pope. But ever since the Tragedy all those years ago, our family almost lost everything. However, we built back from the ground up! It was hard after my father died, but as the Family's Head, I managed to bring us back to a small restaurant in Little Venice." Nero said with pride as he felt the gaze of his ancestors look upon him. He was fortunate to have his sister and mother still around, they helped guide him during those tougher years. "Once again, to ask 'Why do I not poison the food' is to ask why I do not pull on this collar and end it all. My whole family has spent generations trying to elevate our status as the best Bakers in the world." said Nero with a frown as he prepared to speak once more.
"For example, when I was in Little Venice a few months ago, a friend of ours had lost everything after they released undercooked food to an important customer, causing them to get slightly sick. Their good name, their status, all gone in a flash as the rumors spread of them, and soon they had to shut down as no customer would buy from them. That was an accident, a mistake that anyone could have made. If I gave out undercooked or poisoned food, it would be on an equal footing as to pluck out the heart of every member of the Fiammes family. It would destroy everything that we've worked for." said Nero with a fire in his eyes.
"Once again, if you think my food is poisoned for any intent, pick any cookie. Pick any piece of bread. Pick anything that I have made, and I will gladly eat it instead. For if it is poisoned, it is a fate better to die than to dishonor my family, and when it isn't poisoned, you can see the truth." said Nero with a solemn promise. He couldn't afford to let even the smallest shadow of doubt.

Orica stood there as Nero explained his reasoning for not having poisoned the cookies. It was a good answer, but not quite good enough. ”Interesting, but not quite what I asked for. I asked for all of the reasons why you shouldn't poison them, but you merely gave the most personal ones. One must always keep in mind the many factors surrounding their actions.”
Orica took one of the cookies and took a bite of it, eating it. ”Even if you were in a position where clinging to your family's honor could be compromised, you need to know why you shouldn't. Poison is a horrible, weak tactic whether you're interested in playing along with the bear's Despairing part of this farce or not. Poisoned baked goods pin you as a culprit, even if it wasn't your fault. It's your duty to not just make sure you have not made what you've cooked be an instrument of murder, but also so that others don't use that against you. In addition, poison is a hard to aim weapon. Say that someone you wished not to harm had eaten something poisoned planned for someone else, or something you were lax on and someone else poisoned. It was your weakness in not preparing for the weak actions of others that is to blame. You say that you would sooner die than to poison your baked goods. I saw that you don't go far enough. It would be better to die than to let your baked goods be used in any form of murder. Strength is not just the physical version I strive to, but the mental to look the consequences of your actions and inactions in the eye and declare that you will prevent them.”

Good Meals, Good Friends, Good Laughs, Good Murders, What more could anyone want? "I suppose there is truth in your words..." said Nero as he listened to the Ultimate Princess Knight. While he thought he understood poisoning, it seems that he hadn't fully grasped it. All this time, he was worried about his own mistakes, that he failed to remember how easily he could be pinned for murder, and he'd be none the wiser.
"You've given me much to think about. I suppose from now on, I will personally inspect every single ingredient I take for cooking, as one ingredient could easily lead to murder. Therefore, it will become much less likely for my cooking be poisoned, and even if they are, I shall taste test them just in case. With the fact of knowing what ingredients I'm using, making sure that they aren't tampered as I cook and making sure they still aren't poisoned, I think it will be much less likely for a murder to originate from me. I thank you." said Nero as he contemplated what steps he could do. So long as he followed those three steps, and he kept an eye on them the whole time until consumption, he will be successful in all likelihood.
"Anyhow Orica, forgive me if this is a question you don't wish to answer, but does your kingdom have a history of poisoning?" questioned Nero as he took a bite out of his cookie. She seemed very upset with the idea of poison after all.
"And I must ask, do you like my cooking?" questioned Nero. He hated to bombard questions, but a chef must always have a critic. Otherwise, they get lazy and complacent. Besides, if she liked cookies, then he'd have to make more in the future.

Orica took another bite from the cookie as Nero talked about what she had said to him. ”Perhaps not all of you are incapable of overcoming your weaknesses,” she said before answering any of his questions. ”You just need to accept that you have them and learn to go stronger. As for my kingdom, we have a history of poison, yes, but it is far from as terrible as you think. Many people that feared the Strength of my ancestors attempted to use poison to take down ones they deemed to strong to approach head on, but we fought back. That which does not kill you makes means you are Stronger than it. It would only show how weak they were to try such a deplorable tactic.”
Finishing the cookie she added, ”And your cooking is fine. Do not take my comments about weakness to mean I think any of you are bad at what you do. Talent and Mindset are different. The problem is leaving what talent there is to such a flimsy thing as 'Hope' when that collar around your neck proves it to be too weak to be supported.”

Good Meals, Good Friends, Good Laughs, Good Murders, What more could anyone want? "Interesting... Thank you for sharing your information with me. But I wonder how you would fight back against an invisible enemy who's attacks are near impossible to track..." said Nero as he heard his response. It was interesting to know that they fought back.
"Anyhow, I agree with your opinion on hope, at least in one regard, and disagree with it as well. One should never rely on Hope for their talent. Hope should be created from Talent. But I suppose I can't agree that Hope is useless. It can be the rope that can pull one back from the abyss of despair and death. Even with this bomb around my neck, I will still continue for tomorrow with creating Hope for the others in my head. It's been a very interesting conversation with you, thank you." said Nero. It was nice to talk with someone with differing opinions sometimes.

”That Hope can just as easily be the rope that is used to hang you,” Orica said, dusting the cookie crumbs off her armored hand. ”I defend against that which can't be seen by preparing as if it is there. That is all. Now good day. You have ingredients to make sure they are safe, correct?”
Nodding, she turned and went on her way. She was a strange one alright.
