Irene had not strayed far from the dormitories since they arrived on the island. The rooms were surprisingly comfortable even without proper floors, while much of the rest remained uninviting. The board games and card games were a welcome addition, and it seemed their stay would not be entirely inconvenient. There wasn't much to tinker with at the moment, so productivity would be limited. It would be best to use the time to keep her mind in ideal condition. Most of the games, however, required multiple people. This was not an issue when in her shop, as customers would visit regularly. Within her room, however, she was unlikely to get any visitors unless they were specifically invited.
She stepped outside, trying to remain in what shade she could find. Another individual was probably nearby, searching for something to occupy their attention, much like she was. She would extend an invitation, the result of which was not predictable at the moment, and that was the most she could do for the time. She caught sight of a familiar face, one she had discussed with before on the uses and benefits of the internet, one Ms. Nox Tenebris. Their discussion had been an informative one, and perhaps further knowledge could follow. "Hello to you once again, Miss Tenebris. I wish to play a game. May I ask you if you wish to participate?"

as long as you remember me, i don't care if everyone else forgets. [attr="class","quicklinks"]♡STAYPOSITIVE♡ [attr="class","quicklinks"]357 words ♡ Lights, Camera, Action! Nox Tenebris on stage, front and center. ♡ | [attr="class","technoscroll"]❝ Nox was about to head out when she heard herself being called. As she was turned away from Irene, she took a deep breath before turning to the girl with a dazzling smile. She leaned her palm onto the left side of her face as she hummed, skipping over to the girl.
She was glad Irene didn't seem too affected by the previous trial, and refused to cause any type of distress to anyone. Even if her own mind, her own heart was aching emptily in a dull ache that spread to her fingertips and toes a buzzed in her head.
It was business like usual, pretend. Smile, laugh, let out sarcastic but happy responses, throw up your defenses. She couldn't afford to fall apart, not with so much on the line. So she made sure to follow said mental checklist.
"Sure, what game?" *She asked with a slight shuffle of her feet. |

In light of recent events and their new imprisonment, the girl seemed almost too cheerful, but it was not something she would question. Other individuals had other reactions to certain situations, and perhaps she was one of those who found their vacation destination a cause for celebration. Irene herself was not, and lacked an understanding of why one would think in such a way, but understood that it was simply the way matters were. There were other matters to put her mind to for the time being, matters not of pressing urgency but of more immediate importance.
"There is a wide variety available to us. Chess. Backgammon. Trivial Pursuit. Connect Four. Scrabble. Many more. There are also games playable with cards. Poker. Go Fish. Blackjack. War. Uno. You may select from any of these or more. I have no particular preference at the moment. All will pass the time."

In her eyes, Irene was the perfect friend to go to just to relax or just to talk if you needed a break from everything. Which was why she was severely glad Irene offered the great idea of playing a game. She found herself smiling, and by just a little bit; it wasn't completely fake.
"Hm, I like myself a few games of Blackjack and Poker, but I also really like Trivial Pursuit! We can just randomly go through those, if you don't mind and want to!" She spoke cheerfully, running her hands through her hair. While she was having a difficult time handling her emotions and processing what was happening to all of them, she found talking to people like Irene who spoke so calmly calmed her racing heart just a tad bit. |

Her offer had been accepted, and she would exercise her mind in her idle time. In addition to being knowledgeable on the internet and its functions, Nox was most likely well-versed in social protocol and conventions due to her talent. While keeping her mind active, she would gain further knowledge on the subjects she lacked experience with. It had been quite an opportune moment for the invitation, in hindsight.
"Very well. I do not mind. Such would be agreeable." Irene nodded, and walked to the door of her room, opening it again for Nox. She took a deck of cards and the Trivial Pursuit box out of the table, setting them out. She had experience with them, though her skill level at the card games varied. They were games of chance, in a sense, rather than of intellect as the Trivial Pursuit was, regardless of whether or not one were to gamble upon them. There were many different combinations in which a deck of cards could be shuffled, a number which she could not at the moment recall, and several possible outcomes to the game. They were unpredictable games, which was their appeal to most. One could not predict precisely how the game would proceed. It would be an interesting exercise, nonetheless.
"I believe this shall be an entertaining afternoon, Ms. Tenebris. As they say, 'let the games begin'." She sat down at the chair across from the door.

as long as you remember me, i don't care if everyone else forgets. [attr="class","quicklinks"]♡STAYPOSITIVE♡ [attr="class","quicklinks"]205 words ♡ Lights, Camera, Action! Nox Tenebris on stage, front and center. ♡ | [attr="class","technoscroll"]❝ Nox found herself smiling, sitting across from Irene to start their game. While Irene was thinking more along the lines of studying someone as Nox was left in the dark as to Irene's thoughts, she was much more worried about trying to make herself seem more friendly and confident, while also trying to relax. Everything around her was a way to try to make sure people didn't see her insecurities or her worry, so a nice, calming board game would be the perfect distraction and the perfect way to come off as cool, calm, confident, and collected. On the other hand, she desperately didn't want to worry about any of that, and simply try to relax her mind and body from all the stress induced around her. She found a pretty simple compromise that mixed the both of those things. 'Just make sure you have fun during the card game, but don't get competitive.' she said to herself, letting out a small chuckle at how simple it sounded.
"I'm ready! Geim-eul hamyeon igyeoyaji!" She said cheerfully, the second sentence being clear Korean. She paused, realizing Irene probably wouldn't understand her. "Oh. It means 'I play to win.'" She giggled out, excited to start their game. |
