After everything that happened (and all the good smells that wafted through the air), Dorothy decided to raid the kitchen by herself. Monokuma was just being himself as she knew, but the fact that Monokuma basically threw everything away didn't sit well with her.
If no one else appreciated good food, then at least the Polyglot would have to. And so she decided to raid the kitchen. What she didn't think of was the fact that the food itself was either in the freezer or in the pantry, and thusly there was only the kitchen equipment to entertain her for a while.
She did figure that it wouldn't be long before the next murder happened, and that she wouldn't spend a lot of time with her dad. Knowing Monokuma, he'd re-kill everyone who was resurrected after the trial was complete.
And there was still mom. It felt to her like months that Ren died to save the audience, but where were they? Sometimes the thoughts about Dorothy's missing mom keep her up at night.
Oh well, unless someone joined her in the kitchen, she'd just go back to her apartment and spend time with her dear old deceased dad.

It turned out somebody was about to do just that, as Irene entered the kitchen, equipped with an apple from the pantry and her pocket tool. "Hello, Miss Saotome." She greeted, giving an almost undetectable nod, and approaching the kitchen counter. She placed the apple in front of her, then opened the pocket tool's knife attachment. She held the apple in place with a vise-like grip, and started the careful process of slicing it into pieces. The knife was small, and not especially pointy, but was efficient at cutting, which appeared to be its designated use. Her attention was entirely on her hands, the knife, and the apple at the moment.
After cutting the apple into decently sized cubes, Irene took the seeds from the pile and separated them. Next, she moved to the sink to rinse off the knife, then slide it back into the pocket tool, which she put in her overalls pocket. She dropped the seeds into the trash, and returned to the apple cubes. The process had been completed with the efficiency of a machine, despite being a rather mundane process, which wouldn't seem very different whether completed by man or machine, but it was beside the point. She turned to face Dorothy again.
"Would you like some?"

Dorothy was a little bit surprised when she saw Irene enter the kitchen, but nonetheless, she greeted her with a polite "Hello, Irene!" as well. She then watched intently what the Toymaker was doing with the knife as she cut an apple down to size.
"I wonder if she'd do it a human too? ... Wait, Dorothy, what are you thinking?", she thought as she was mesmerized by Irene's efficiency. The Polyglot's trance was only broken by Irene's question of whether she would like a piece of the apple.
Dorothy nodded happily, said "If I may. Thank you!", and took precisely one piece of the apple cubes. She ate it and she wasn't surprised at all. It tasted how an apple should, so there was nothing to be worried about it.
Before Irene left without much of a conversation, Dorothy decided to ask a question. "So, Irene, what do you think of this motive? It's a silly one, right? Even with the former Ultimate Despairs back, I don't think they'd pose much of a problem if they were set loose upon the world once more. They have been dead for 20 years, while technology improved and the Future Foundation's influence only grew in that time. And even with that bear bringing our deceased loved ones back, I could figure that he would take them away after someone has been murdered, so we can't spend a lot of time with them either."
She then added something more. "Like with my dad. I should go back to him and chat with a bit before he's gone again."

"You are welcome." Irene replied, before taking one of the cubes herself. She raised it in front of her, examining it for a moment, before eating it. For its simplicity, the apple was present in many legends and myths. Perhaps its simplicity was the reason for that, but perhaps not. It was of no consequence at the moment, anyway. There was nobody that could be asked where they were, and most likely not even outside of their location. It was a question unlikely to be answered, and one of little concern to her, a short musing. There were more pressing matters at hand in another question being asked to her.
"They are destruction personified, Miss Saotome. This holds true regardless of time. Technological advancement continues to take steps. Reanimation is not technology of which we have been aware prior to our imprisonment. It is likely that our captor has more advanced technology still in their possession. If this is correct, their release may mean the end of all. But perhaps not. It is not something I hold authority on. As to our once-deceased connections, your conclusion is a probable one. I have informed my elder master of the temporary element of his situation. All necessary business has been conducted. It shall not become an obstacle." She took another apple cube, chewing it silently.
"Doing so before time has elapsed would be a prudent course of action."

"Destruction personified, hm?" That comment stuck out to Dorothy. She read the history books and yet it was still unbelievable to her that two high school girls could amass that much power. They were pretty good at hiding it, though. Their talents weren't exactly screaming "Hey, I've killed millions of people!"
Nevertheless even after Irene's thorough explanation, she wasn't convinced. "You're right with the fact that resurrecting people isn't technology we're familiar with, but what if they're not real people to begin with? Like, take that bear for example. He's a hologram. What if those Despairs, and by extension, everyone else who's deceased, are just holograms, being able to be turned on and off as the person responsible for this wishes?"
She put her right hand on her chin and let out a "Hmm..." before she continued. "Then this begs the question: Who is behind all of this? Mariko called that bear a 'newbie', which would suggest that one of us is behind this. Actually, let's not dwell on the 'who'. I don't think we can get the clues we need to figure this out from here."
She then thought about grabbing a second piece of the apple cubes, but decided against it. If she wanted to eat, she could always raid the pantry instead and stuff herself full that way. Not that she'd need to, anyway.
The Polygot could definitely figure again that the bear would prepare food again for the next trial. And like the two times before, she wouldn't touch it.

Irene took another cube, turning it around and examining it. "Incorrect, Miss Saotome. If you will recall in what way a hologram functions, objects are able to pass through them. Their ability to make physical contact, if present, is limited, as with Miss Ai, if you will remember. However, the deceased are able to interact with physical objects, and cannot be passed through. Your hypothesis is unlikely excluding the possibility of more developed holograms." She ate the apple cube, then spoke again. "Further possibility of our captor having access to more advanced technology, if it is to be believed."
"In addition, the statement is simply proof that our captor has not participated in the creation of such a situation prior. There is equal likelihood of their location among us and within an outside location. In the case of the former, automation is required, which is possible. In the case of the latter, manual control is also possible. However, your final statement is correct. There is no purpose to speculation when one lacks the information required to reach a sufficiently proven conclusion." Irene stared blankly, before examining another one of the cubes. Despite the rant, she didn't seem especially upset or annoyed. She was just stating the facts as far as she knew.

"Oh, I see.", Dorothy said to Irene. "You're right. I still wonder how it could be pulled off, though. Well, I figure with enough money and time, anything is possible. The situation we're in right now is pretty much proof of that. Only someone with a lot of boredom, lacking empathy and with a boatload of cash would even think of doing something like this."
She thought back to when the game started.
"I mean, first we were in a mansion, then we were on an island, now we're in hell's kitchen. Who knows where we're going next? I personally think our next stop might be musically related. Not that I've got any proof of that, I've just got a hunch, you know? Maybe it has to do with our talents in one way or another. Nero has a food-related talent and Yuichi has a music-related talent."
She then recalled what she read in the history books.
"Then again, the killing game from 20 years ago didn't seem to have any areas that were related to the talents from back then, aside from maybe the Theater..."
The Polyglot was lost in thoughts.
